Every year, our Year 5 Students get the opportunity to visit South Oakleigh Secondary College to experience different STEAM activities/subjects that are on offer.  Each Monday afternoon we all walk down to the secondary college where we are greeted by their friendly teachers and student leaders; many of whom are ex Oakleigh South PS students.

There are 5 rotations to experience including Science lab, TV Studio, Fitness Studio, Music and Small Lab. So far our year 5’s have participated in 2 rotations and the feedback has been very positive and exciting. All students have embraced the hands on nature of the activities where they have had experiences such as operating a TV camera, boxing, playing the drums and keyboard, dissecting a bulls eye and exploring the SMALlab (the only one of its type in the southern hemisphere!). It’s an interactive workspace that combines ultra-precise motion capture technology with an immersive floor projection. Students learn as they move about the room. WOW!

Year 5’s can’t wait to get back onsite to explore more of secondary college life and get a further taste of the opportunities available to them as they move forward with their education in a couple of years. We thank SOSC for giving us the opportunity to visit and explore.
