On Tuesday the 31st of October the Oakleigh South Tackle Rugby team went to Duncan Mckinnon to play in the District Rugby Gala Day. Both teams were absolutely fantastic on the day and put in their all for their team and school.

The day consisted of 4 round robin matches, followed by semi-finals and finals.

The A-Team came up against some strong and impressive teams, but competed hard all day. Unfortunately in the round robin games we only managed 1 win and 3 very narrow losses. This left Oakleigh South in the position of playing against the undefeated top side in the Semi Final. Despite a couple of injuries, we played our absolute hearts out and managed to come from behind to beat the top side 5 tries to 4 in an absolute nail biter. This magnificent win took us to the Grand Final where we played St. Pauls. Unfortunately the boys had fatigued by this point and we struggled, losing 6 tries to 1. Absolutely outstanding effort to come away with the runners up pennant for the Bentleigh District Division 1 Rugby. Special mentions to Jae who captained the side and came away with 7 tries and Year 5 Oliver Green who scored 5 tries and has an exciting future in front of him.

B- Team

The B-Team played in division 2 as a development squad for future years. They had an absolutely fantastic day for a team of boy who only started training a week prior to the tournament. The boys flew out of the blocks with 2 early wins. We tired as the day went on and finished the round robin with 2 wins a draw and a loss. We went into the Semi Final against St.Peters full of confidence, but unfortunately fell short 6 tries to 4. A wonderful day by the boys, with lots of promise shown. A special mention to last minute call up Ethan Gray who dominated the day with 14 tries.
