PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Yesterday the annual House Swimming Sports were held at Oakleigh Recreation Centre. The day was held in perfect weather conditions for swimming and every student who participated tried their absolute best. Results from the swimming events will be used to help form the school’s Swimming Squad. Training for the District Swimming Sports will occur early next year.

Today, we had 148 very excited children come to school to meet their prep teacher and classmates for 2025. While the new students were with their teacher, the parents were welcome to have a coffee and a chat and buy second hand uniform. Thank you to the parent group for helping to organise this.

Once again OSPS has received excellent NAPLAN results. We are very proud of our school and the outstanding effort that all staff and students put into their work, not only to receive wonderful results at NAPLAN level, but across the whole school. Keep an eye out for an article in the Age Newspaper this Sunday. Remember OSPS is not just about NAPLAN results, we are about the whole child, connecting students to school via sports, performing arts, STEM, sustainable village, languages and all the special clubs and activities we provide. Congratulations to everyone!

Enjoy your weekend,

Nikki Virtuoso

SCHOOL MATTERS

REMINDER: PLEASE RETURN ALL LIBRARY BOOKS

As we approach the end of the school year, it’s time to ensure all library books are returned to the school library.

We kindly ask all students and families to check at home, in school bags, and even in forgotten corners to locate any borrowed books. Returning library books promptly helps us prepare for the new year by conducting a stocktake and ensuring our library collection is ready for students in 2025.

Important Information:

  • Deadline: Wednesday, 18th December.
  • Books can be dropped off at the library during school hours.

Your cooperation supports our school community and helps keep the library well-stocked and organised for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you for your assistance and happy reading!

TERM 4 ART SHOWCASE

Term 4 has been an exciting and creative time in the art room, with students exploring a variety of artistic techniques and projects across all year levels. Here’s a snapshot of their incredible work:

Year 6

The Year 6 students began by sketching 2–3 houses side by side, adding fine lines to define their designs, and then colouring them using watercolours. After completing the colour stages, they moved on to sketching 3 or more core memories from their primary school years, capturing significant moments in their artistic journey.

Year 5

Year 5 students started with a focus on Indigenous patterns, using pastels to create textured landscapes. Next, they created horizon scenes with lightly smudged green landscapes, adding intricate details like trees, grass, and the sun. Texture was incorporated through the use of paper scraps and felt.

Year 4

The Year 4s began with Indigenous dot art on black paper before moving on to a personal project where they drew a picture of someone they love. They crafted colourful yarn-wrapped frames to display their artwork, giving their creations a heartfelt and decorative finish.

Year 3

Year 3 students delved into underwater worlds, creating deep-sea scenes with oil pastels and bubble-textured backgrounds. These were filled with vibrant details like fish, coral, and divers. They then shifted their focus to outer space, drawing and colouring planets, cutting them out, and placing them on black paper. They added galaxy effects with smudged chalk and finished with silver and gold stars for a cosmic touch.

Year 2

The Year 2s started by painting clay pots with red and white stripes. They then wove red paper strips to design shopfronts out of cardboard, finishing by adding their school photos to personalise their creations.

Year 1

Year 1 students wrapped up their fish-themed artwork and transitioned to a “donut” project. They dipped foam circles into paint, pressed them firmly to create 12 donuts, and added watercolours for backgrounds. To complete the look, they painted “icing” in pink, yellow, or brown and used Posca markers for sprinkles.

Preps

The Preps explored geometric designs by cutting small squares, triangles, and rectangles to create 1–3 castles, enhanced with watercolours. They also crafted watercolour circles and designed geometric crystals with added glitter for a magical touch.

This term’s artwork showcases the incredible creativity and effort of our students, who have learned a variety of artistic techniques while expressing their unique ideas. Well done to everyone for their hard work and imagination!

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS STALL

Our annual Christmas stall will be held next week, on Thursday, 12th, and Friday 13th, of December. The Year 1 and Year 4 classes will be attending the Christmas stall on Thursday and all other classes will be attending on Friday.

On your child’s allocated day, please send them to school with their money in a sealed zip lock bag with their name and class clearly written. As no bags are provided, we also ask that you send your child with a bag for their shopping.

We are also looking for volunteers to help across both days. If you have availability, please add your details to the google sheet:

Happy shopping & Merry Christmas!

LOST PROPERTY

We currently have a significant number of uniforms in our lost property. Between now and the end of term, we will be processing all items. Our goal is to clear the lost property by the end of the year. Any unclaimed items without names will be donated to charity or added to the second-hand uniform shop.

Unfortunately, due to the volume of lost clothing, we are unable to return named items directly to students.

We encourage both students and parents to check the lost property for any missing named items. All named items will be displayed on the racks for easy identification.

Thank you for your cooperation!
