The afternoon is always met with excitement as students get to learn a few of the happenings in the year level above and loads to look forward to.
The school disco was held last Friday evening and attended by many students. Thank you to parent group for your organisation of the event and extend our thanks to James Melbourne for the awesome light and sound set up, Mr. Eykman for playing resident DJ, Mrs Meyer and Mr Mietzcke for assisting with supervision and of course our parent helpers who continue to make events like this possible.
Please continue to bring in your 10c refundable cans, bottles and containers and drop them to the Year 3 Village purple bins! SAFER SCHOOL SPEEDS ON CENTRE ROAD
We’re excited to announce that safety improvements are coming to Centre Road in Oakleigh South and Clarinda! To enhance the safety of our students, pedestrians, and cyclists, a new 40km/h school speed zone will be introduced during busy school times. This initiative includes the installation of nine electronic speed limit signs that will replace the current static signs.
The reduced speed limit will be in effect during peak hours — 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM — to help ensure safer travel near South Oakleigh Secondary College, Oakleigh South Primary School, and Clarinda Primary School.
Installation is set to begin in November 2024, with completion expected in early 2025. During this time, you may notice temporary lane closures and traffic controllers on site to assist with pedestrian safety.
For more details, you can contact Sharon Barnes at the Department of Transport and Planning at 0473 810 786, or visit the Transport Victoria website.
Let’s work together to keep our school community safe!

STUDENT SHOWCASE
PREP SHOWCASE
On Wednesday, 30 November, we held our big annual prep event, the Teddy Bear Sleepover. In the weeks leading up to it, the preps worked diligently to create cosy beds for their teddies using shoe boxes, incorporating the Design Thinking element of empathy. They practised understanding what their teddies would like and need for the big sleepover.
On the day of the 30th, we said goodnight to our teddies by reading them stories, writing notes, and singing lullabies. The next morning, the preps arrived at school in their pyjamas, only to discover the wild party their teddies had thrown overnight! The teddies had been eating, painting, watching movies, playing with toys, getting into stickers, making a huge mess, and much more. The mischievous teddies filled the prep building with excitement and chaos.
We concluded the Teddy Bear Sleepover with a delightful teddy bear picnic, inviting our grade 4 buddies to join in the fun.
LITERACY CORNER
In literacy, the Prep students have been learning to write narratives, focusing on characters, settings, problems, and solutions. For our special Prep event, the Teddy Bear Sleepover, they created profiles about their favourite teddy bear, including fun details like their teddies’ favourite foods and activities. They also wrote recounts describing all the cheeky mischief their teddies got up to during the sleepover. Take a peek at some of their entertaining narratives, teddy bear profiles, and sleepover stories!
PREP GEM
GRATITUDE: We are grateful for the wonderful year we have had together!
EMPATHY: We are empathetic to people’s emotions and know that our actions can affect others.

LOST PROPERTY
We currently have a significant number of uniforms in our lost property. Between now and the end of term, we will be processing all items. Our goal is to clear the lost property by the end of the year. Any unclaimed items without names will be donated to charity or added to the second-hand uniform shop.
Unfortunately, due to the volume of lost clothing, we are unable to return named items directly to students.
We encourage both students and parents to check the lost property for any missing named items. All named items will be displayed on the racks for easy identification.
Thank you for your cooperation!
