PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Week 5 has once again been a very busy and exciting time for many of our students and staff. Yesterday, 16 students represented the school at the State Athletics Championship at Lakeside Oval.
OSPS took 4 relay teams, as well as runners in the 100 and 200m races. All our students made their finals after qualifying in their heats. Of exceptional note, were the U12 boys relay team who won the silver medal after coming second in the final!
Congratulations to all our students who participated and competed against the best track athletes in Victoria – what an incredible effort!!
Special thanks to Mr Mooney, Miss Gunning, the PE and Year 6 staff for supporting the athletics program.

Prep transition continues this week with Group A returning to have their final session. It has been great to see all the 2024 prep students enjoying themselves in the various classrooms while making many friends. Group B will have their final day next Friday, 10th of November.

A reminder that filming is underway for a local film and that they will be utilising part of the school oval near the parent car park and cricket nets. Filming will end Friday night at approximately 9pm. Please see The Compass notification for more detail.

A reminder that there is no school for students next Monday, 6th November and thatΒ  Tuesday, 7th November is the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday. See you next Wednesday!

If you’re going away on the long weekend, stay safe and enjoy time with your family.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Here is a glimpse of what we enjoyed during this exciting week:

  • Year 1 and 2 students had a fantastic calligraphy session.

  • Year 4 students let their creativity flow through imaginative Kanji artwork.
  • Preps had a delightful time crafting Origami creations.
  • Our special assembly was led by our Grade 6 Japanese Captains, Gemma, Ashley, and Racshna.

During the assembly:

  • Year 1 sang ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’ in Japanese.
  • Year 2 delighted everyone with the Hiragana Song.
  • Year 5 performed a beautiful song called ‘Carrying You’ from the movie ‘Castle in the Sky.’
  • We announced the winners of the Best Colouring and Best Costume awards.

A special shoutout to Max, Laksha, and Chloe from Grade 5 for creating those awesome Japanese Day posters. A special shoutout also goes to the parents’ group who organised a Sushi lunch order last Tuesday! Your efforts are truly appreciated.

We are looking forward to more Zoom calls and the chance to engage in a wonderful cultural exchange with students in Japan.

Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our Japanese program. We can’t wait to share more exciting adventures with you!

OSPS CHRISTMAS TOY APPEAL

The holiday season is upon us, and it’s the perfect time to spread warmth and cheer, especially to vulnerable children and young people who may be doing it tough this year. We are excited for our school to participate in Anglicare Victoria’s annual Christmas Toy Appeal. The Toy Appeal will be running from 30 October 2023 until 1 December 2023.

In the last financial year, Anglicare Victoria provided homes and carers for more than 1600 children and young people.Β  With your support, we can help make a difference and bring smiles to their faces on Christmas Day.

Donation suggestions are on the attached document and donations can be left at the office. Anglicare have asked where possible that we focus on the older age groups; 10 – 12 and 13 – 16 years old.

We thank you in advance for your generosity in the lead up to Christmas.

For more information, please feel free to contact osparentgroup67@gmail.com, or you are welcome to contact Anglicare directly. Their contact details can be found on the attached flyer.
