PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Week 2 of term has been another busy week with our year 3s and year 4s attending swimming at GESAC. They have had a great time learning water safety and the basics of survival. School swimming is an important program to participate in to become familiar with water safety and the basics, they also extend competent swimmers.

Olympian and Australian Hockeyroos goal keeper Rachel Lynch visited the whole school assembly and was interviewed about her experiences as an athlete at the highest level. When Rachel was 12, her year 6 teacher was Ms Wells, yes Ms Wells our current year 6 teacher! At that time, the School Sport Victoria Hockey team didn’t have anyone trial as a goal keeper. Rachel was an excellent softball catcher, with quick arm reflexes and a good slide. Ms Wells suggested that Rachel trial as a goal keeper for the state team and she got in! It was a later start to the sport than expected, however Rachel then went on to play for Greensborough Hockey Club and was in every Victorian state team until she made it to National Selection for the Hockeyroos. She played 230 games for Australia! Check out her bio in the newsletter below!

The week ended in a wonderful Year 6 Business Expo and Prep 100 days of school. The Year 6 business expo is the culmination of many weeks of work from groups of year 6 students who have to work together to create a product, experience or service stall and the full business model of planning, advertising, signage, decoration, goods and delivery. Students did an outstanding job and this afternoon, parents and staff were able to purchase from the stalls and come away with excellent product, prizes and had a wonderful experience.

Preps and prep teachers all dressed up as if they were 100 years old and celebrated their 100 days of school with a variety of 100 day activities. There were hair rollers, walking canes, grey hair and beards everywhere! They held a special prep assembly and sang a 100 days song. We hope everyone enjoyed 100 days of school, we can’t wait to see what the next 100 days holds for our youngest students!

The parent group run DJ Bingo Night Saturday 3rd August is set to be a great kick start to parent functions post COVID. You don’t need to have a table organised, there will be many singles and pairs of adults that can join and form a table on the evening!

Book your tickets via:  www.trybooking.com/CRQOZ

Lastly, Ron Cantlon is set to return part time next week as he returns to work from knee surgery and builds back up to full time. I will of course be still available at anytime Ron is away from the school to support students, parents and staff. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the school community for your continued support and positive feedback while Ron has been away.

Have a lovely and relaxing weekend.

ENROLMENTS FOR PREP 2025 CLOSE THIS WEEK

If you have a child school starting in 2025, Prep Enrolments close this Friday 11.59pm.

Please go to our Enrolments tab, and follow the instructions to register via the Student Insight Portal.

All applications and supporting documents must be submitted by this Friday 26th July 2024. This is in line with the new statewide Prep enrolment timeline, introduced by the Department of Education.

We will be offering out of zone places for 2025, so if you know of other new families who are considering applying for a 2025 Prep placement, please encourage them to submit their forms as well.

NOTE: Please make sure you check the list of required documents on our website, as we are unable to process or offer placement to incomplete applications.

WET WEATHER REMINDER: PLEASE PACK SPARE UNIFORMS

Due to the recent wet weather, many of our students have unfortunately been slipping and getting covered in water and mud during recess and lunch. To avoid disruptions to your day, we kindly ask that you ensure your child has spare uniform items, especially pants and underwear, packed in their school bag.

This will help keep them comfortable and dry without needing to disturb you for a change of clothes.

Thank you for your cooperation.

OSPS GREEN AND GOLD DAY

On Friday 19th of July OSPS turned Green and Gold in support of our Australian Athletes who are competing in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. We also had a special guest our OSPS Olympic Mascot,  join us for some excitement in our OSPS Olympic Arena!

Wishing all our Athletes the best of luck in Paris !

SUPER HIRO DAY

On Wednesday the 14th August, the whole school will be recognising the ‘National Week Against Bullying and Violence’ 12th to 16th August,  by dressing up as their favourite Superhero. We will be promoting and instilling once again, the importance of being an UPSTANDER and being kind and inclusive of everyone. The theme for 2024 is ‘Everyone Belongs’, when we all feel like we belong, bullying struggles to find a place. It’s about embracing who we are, respecting everyone’s differences and standing up together against unkindness. At OSPS we encourage our students to speak up to create a safe place where everyone feels supported and respected.

Thank you for your support of this day.
