PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

It has been a great start to Term 3 and we hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing holiday break.

Over the holidays the Year 6 main cast of Frozen completed their holiday rehearsal in the Hall with Ms Wells, Mr Mietzcke and Ms Stevenson, we thank everyone for coming.

Speaking of the Hall, we’ve had new LED lights upgraded and replaced in the hall, Year 5 building and other sites across the school as part of the Victorian Government Energy Efficiency Project to help the reduction of power usage. This not only helps the environment, the spaces are also much brighter!

The Indigenous design painted on the entrance footpath has commenced, however rainy weather has ceased any progress, it’s going to look fantastic when the design has been completed. Landscaping of several gardens were undertaken and new trees planted in the courtyard between the Hall and Year 6 wing. Work on the Sustainability area also continued over the holidays.

This week families had the opportunity to attend parent teacher interviews with the classroom teacher to discuss your child’s semester 1 report.

The Year 3 & Year 5 students received their NAPLAN results this week. Again, OSPS has performed exceptionally well in the NAPLAN testing, this is by no means without the hard work of the students, teachers and family support. We pride ourselves on not only strong English and Numeracy results, but all the programs that engage students with school such as productions, sustainability, sports, STEM, languages, clubs, visual arts etc.

Next week the Year 3 and Year 4 students participate in the swimming program at GESAC. Those not swimming will follow a water safety program in the classroom.

Lastly, we welcome two new members of staff, Tina Blackwell in Art from Monday to Friday; Lisa Evans in Japanese on Thursday and Friday; Austyn Nugent, Elaine Parry and Katarina Littlejohn in the Tutor Learning Program. They have had a fantastic first week and the school community has made them feel very welcome so far.

Have a lovely weekend!

Acting Principal

SCHOOL MATTERS

WET WEATHER REMINDER: PLEASE PACK SPARE UNIFORMS

Due to the recent wet weather, many of our students have unfortunately been slipping and getting covered in water and mud during recess and lunch. To avoid disruptions to your day, we kindly ask that you ensure your child has spare uniform items, especially pants and underwear, packed in their school bag.

This will help keep them comfortable and dry without needing to disturb you for a change of clothes.

Thank you for your cooperation.

ENROLMENTS FOR PREP 2025 CLOSE NEXT WEEK

This year is even more special as we have Japanese students from Tamba visiting us after 5 years! They will be joining us and are very excited to celebrate the day with everyone at OSPS.

Students can celebrate Japanese culture by dressing up in colourful kimonos, karate gear, ninja costumes, or as their favourite Pokémon, Studio Ghibli characters, anime heroes, samurai, geishas, sumo wrestlers, or Japanese folklore creatures like kitsune and tengu.
