PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome back to everyone including our new families to Oakleigh South. I hope that you all had a restful break and are ready for another busy term.
The building works are still progressing well, including the addition of the new windows, doors and cladding in the year 1 and 2 wing. Please continue to use gates 2, 3 and 4 to enter and exit the school until further notice. Please refrain from using the library coridoor to enter and exit the school.
The Year 4 Production of SPLASH in the last week of term 2 was a fantastic performance. The singing, dancing, acting, costumes, sets, lighting, music and sound was a delight to see. Thank you to the Year 4 production team, staff and parent volunteers for all your work and efforts.
We have decided to run two extra school tours for children starting prep in 2024. These tours will be held on Thursday 20th July at 9.30am and 5.30pm. Please pass on this information to anyone you know that may be thinking about attending Oakleigh South Primary School next year. The link for booking through Trybooking is on the school website.
A friendly reminder for dog owners that when your dog is on OSPS grounds including the school oval at drop off time and pick up time, please keep them on a leash at all times. Thank you for your cooperation.
Have a great week.

CHANGES TO NAPLAN RESULTS
Ahead of NAPLAN results for students being released from Monday 17 July 2023, I’m writing to inform you of some changes to this year’s reporting. These are changes being introduced nationally by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).
NAPLAN will continue to measure student achievement in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, and grammar and punctuation but the results will now be presented in 4 proficiency levels:
These are:
· exceeding
· strong
· developing
· needs additional support.
This change will give schools, parents and carers clearer information that details student achievement against new proficiency levels.
Students’ NAPLAN reports will continue to show how they are tracking against their peers and provide an indication of their skill levels against national averages and where we would expect them to be in order to get the most out of schooling. This provides valuable information to teachers about how we can continue to support your child.
Each set of NAPLAN results is an important milestone but it’s also important that students know that one result does not define them – these results are about making sure every student gets the support they need so they can continue to get the best from their learning.
When we provide you with your results, you will also receive information about what the new proficiency levels mean.
As ever, you’re welcome to speak to your child’s teacher with any questions about these changes.
WIZARD OF OZ – BIKE WANTED
If anyone in the school community has a black vintage bike (back basket would be a bonus but not neccesssary) that we could lend for the Year 6 Production of Wizard of Oz, that would be appreciated. It has to be black in colour.
We will also take a donated bike!
Please contact nikki.virtuoso@education.vic.gov.au if you can assist.
Thank you.
SAFETY AT OSPS
A friendly reminder to encourage parents and children to be safe when on and moving off our school grounds. Please read and follow the below safety measures to ensure we have a safe and risk-free environment at OSPS:
- If you are using the parent car park, please meet you child at the fence. This reduces risk as some students have been walking/running through the car park unsupervised.
- Parents are reminded that they should not be using the staff car park to drop off/pick up children at school. For those families who drop off or pick up their child from Camp Australia, you have been directly notified by Camp Australia where to predominantly park (that is the parent car park and Riley Street) and what do in cases of bad weather or emergency.
- The library corridor is only to be accessed if student’s are borrowing books or have Chess Club. Please do not access it to pick up your child. This corridor will be blocked off in the coming weeks as the builders continue works in the admin wing.
- Please note the student hall toilets are for students only, if parents need to use the bathroom, please ask at the office to use the staff toilets.
Together we can support our children to have a safe and enjoyable time at OSPS.
