SAFETY AT OSPS

A friendly reminder to encourage parents and children to be safe when on and moving off our school grounds. Please read and follow the below safety measures to ensure we have a safe and risk-free environment at OSPS:

  • If you are using the parent car park, please meet you child at the fence. This reduces risk as some students have been walking/running through the car park unsupervised.
  • Parents are reminded that they should not be using the staff car park to drop off/pick up children at school. For those families who drop off or pick up their child from Camp Australia, you have been directly notified by Camp Australia where to predominantly park (that is the parent car park and Riley Street) and what do in cases of bad weather or emergency.
  • The library corridor is only to be accessed if student’s are borrowing books or have Chess Club. Please do not access it to pick up your child. This corridor will be blocked off in the coming weeks as the builders continue works in the admin wing.
  • Please note the student hall toilets are for students only, if parents need to use the bathroom, please ask at the office to use the staff toilets.

Together we can support our children to have a safe and enjoyable time at OSPS.

STUDENT SHOWCASE

PREP MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATION

On Friday 12th of May, the Preps welcomed in some very special visitors for an afternoon delight.

Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunties or any special friends came to visit us in our classrooms.

The Preps were so excited to sing a special song, give gifts and take the wonderful women in our lives around the room to make and create memories with.

Our visitors walked out relaxed from the massage station, with beautiful make up and nails and full from the delicious biscuits they decorated. Thank you to our special mums for coming to visit!

PREP REPTILE INCURSION

On Wednesday the 17th of May, Bryce from Reptile Encounters brought in a range of visitors, some big and some small.

They were soft, bumpy, scaly, soft or hard and gave some of us the heeby jeebies!

Preps learnt a range of things about the reptiles that came in to visit.

We learnt their life expectancy, habitats, diets and other little fun facts. Did you know that turtles breath through their bottoms and a crocodile has 3 eyelids!

JUNIOR PERFORMING ARTS

During this semester, the Grade Preps and Grade Ones have been continuing to learn about the music concepts of Pitch, Tempo, and Dynamics. The students have demonstrated their awareness of higher or lower in music using the voice, Curwin hand signs (Solfa), instruments and movement. The Grade Preps and Ones have been dancing and moving at different speeds (Tempo). The Grade Ones have been introduced to Drama through acting out  fairy-tales and other stories in class.

The Grade twos have been learning about the music concepts of pitch, tempo, and dynamics in Term 2. The students have demonstrated their understanding of tempo and dynamics through their singing, movement, and playing percussion instruments. We have had fun singing funny insect songs.

The Grade three students have been learning about the music concepts of beat & rhythm, pitch, tempo and dynamics. They have been learning how to do bucket drumming and percussion pieces with drumsticks. ‘Stars of the week’ have chosen their favourite songs for the Grade three classes to listen to.

LITERACY CORNER

PREP LITERACY CORNER

Throughout this term Preps have been focusing on recount writing, particularly about our weekends in journal.

Students have been focusing on punctuation (full stops, capitals and exclamation marks) whilst also introducing our own thoughts and feelings about events.

Just this week Preps have been introduced to a new text type…procedures! The children have learnt the key parts of a procedure and the different kinds that we use in day to day life.

A recipe of how to make j…j…jelly (also our letter of the week, coincidence!) was the perfect real-life connection for the children.

Classes made jelly together, wrote the procedure and of course experienced the final step of enjoying the delicious outcome!

We are grateful for all families that purchased a hot chocolate or potato cake as all money raised will be put towards the grade 6 graduation.

On Friday, there was also a pizza lunch day held for the grade 1 and grade 2 students. Volunteers worked hard to serve over 400 pizza slices to the waiting students.
