With winter starting to creep in with cooler and chilly days, it’s a timely reminder that sicknesses start to increase in the form of colds, viruses, and flu. Just a reminder if your child is at all unwell in the morning, please do not send them to school.
Year 4 are in full swing with rehearsals for their upcoming production of ‘Splash’ in the last week of term. Tickets went on sale this week for the year 4 parents through Trybooking. SAFETY AT OSPS
A friendly reminder to encourage parents and children to be safe when on and moving off our school grounds. Please read and follow the below safety measures to ensure we have a safe and risk-free environment at OSPS:
- If you are using the parent car park, please meet you child at the fence. This reduces risk as some students have been walking/running through the car park unsupervised.
- Parents are reminded that they should not be using the staff car park to drop off/pick up children at school. For those families who drop off or pick up their child from Camp Australia, you have been directly notified by Camp Australia where to predominantly park (that is the parent car park and Riley Street) and what do in cases of bad weather or emergency.
- The library corridor is only to be accessed if student’s are borrowing books or have Chess Club. Please do not access it to pick up your child. This corridor will be blocked off in the coming weeks as the builders continue works in the admin wing.
- Please note the student hall toilets are for students only, if parents need to use the bathroom, please ask at the office to use the staff toilets.
Together we can support our children to have a safe and enjoyable time at OSPS.

STUDENT SHOWCASE
YEAR 4 SHOWCASE
In Writing groups this term, we have been focusing on persuasive writing. In this kind of writing, you use persuasive techniques to convince others to agree with your point of view.
We have learnt introductions that hook the reader in with a ‘sizzling start’. These sizzling starts are designed to grab the reader’s attention and make them want to read more.
We have also practised using persuasive language. This includes using emotive language to make readers feel a certain way, using rhetorical questions to make readers think, and using facts and examples to support your argument.
Finally, here are some examples of sizzling starts written for our persuasive texts in class.
Animals Should Not Be Kept in Zoos by Makaela 4AS
Do you love animals? Well, where do you always see them?
The depressing zoo of course. If you think for a bit, aren’t they putting all the animals in captivity?
Also, out in the wild, animals live longer and it disrupts the food chain.
Just so you know, having an animal in the zoo can destroy how an animal would live in the wild. Now, let’s get into the facts!
Animals Should Be Kept in Zoos by Rheanne 4OL
Whose idea was it to keep animals in zoos?
To take them out of their homes is great cruelty.
They get lonely, get scared by visitors and simply aren’t in their natural habitat.
Animals deserve better and you know it!
It’s Important to Exercise! by Shai 4DK
Do you turn your back on people when they ask you to play because you don’t have the energy?
Well, there is one secret that will change you!
The liveliness it’ll give you, the health that no pill will provide, and the ability to undertake difficult tasks as easy as taking a step forward.
Embrace the change and step into my world: Exercise!
Animals Should Be Free! by Sam 4LD
Do you think animals should be kept captive?
If you do, you must be 100% crazy!
Animals should have the right to be free! Would you like to be kept in a cage for the rest of your life?
It’s cruel to animals. They can’t return to the wild and they can break free and endanger humans.
RESILIENCE PROJECT
YEAR 4 GEM
This term the Year 4s are working extremely hard with their production ‘Splash’, rehearsals. They display gratitude by being respectful and appreciative of their props and stage displays which have been kindly sourced or made by the teachers or parents.
The students are doing an excellent job with organising extra times to get together with their friends to rehearse songs and choreography so they can perform their best.
Everyone is being mindful that only the people on stage are the ones to be talking. Respectful behaviours are displayed towards the people performing.
The main characters are continuously given positive reinforcement and encouragement from their peers, which resembles the growing maturity of our Year 4s. Splash will no doubt be a wonderful and very memorable experience not only for the Year 4s but for everyone involved and who comes to this exciting production!
