PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Firstly, thank you to the Parent Group and teachers who have organised the special food days, such as nachos and pancake days, sausage sizzles, as well as cheeseburger, milkshake, and ice cream days. The children have enjoyed having a special treat at school.
Yesterday was the last school tour for 2024. Just a reminder that there are new statewide enrolment procedures in place for all children beginning prep in 2025. All enrolment applications are due by Friday 26th July and parents and carers will be notified by Friday 9th August their enrolment outcome. We urge you to enrol any siblings of children already at our school, as soon as possible. This cut-off date includes siblings as well. This is very important as it allows us to understand how many vacancies we have to offer other potential enrolments. Thank you for your assistance.
Last week, OSPS was host to the Victorian State School Spectacular Mass Dance rehearsal in our hall for all the local primary schools. The hall has been buzzing with songs and amazing dance moves. The spectacular will be held mid-September.
We have postponed our 21st May School Council meeting and have rescheduled to Tuesday 4th June.
The rehearsals of the upcoming Year 4 production ‘Gladis Bake Gladiator’ are well underway. Ticket sales will open soon so keep an eye out for further information via Compass.
Finally, good luck to the OSPS Cross Country team who will represent our school at the Beachside Division Cross Country run next Tuesday.
Have a great weekend.

STUDENT SHOWCASE
PREP STUDENT SHOWCASE
PREP LITERACY CORNER
During Term 2, the Preps have been learning how to form sentences with prompts, while also using words from ‘the letter of the week’. They have also been enjoying getting to share and write about their weekends through recount writing.
The students had such a blast at the school Fete, they were able to practise their recount writing skills through the ‘Fun at the Fete’ activity. Additionally, we have been looking at CVC words and practising how to sound them out and identify them from pictures.
Lastly, for Mother’s Day we completed a profile about our mum’s, telling them why we love them!
PREP GEM
Gratitude: We are grateful for our mums and the fete!
Empathy: We have empathy for Mr Hooley kissing the chicken.
Mindfulness: We are mindful of First Nations people as we commemorate the reconciliation journey for Sorry Week.
PREP RESILIENCE PROJECT
This term, the Prep students have embarked on a journey to explore The Resilience Project. Our focus is on understanding GEM (Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness) and how it applies to our lives. We first started learning about emotional literacy, understanding different emotions and how to recognise and express them. Later in the term we will learn about gratitude and appreciating what we have. We cannot wait to transform into GEM heroes!
JAPANESE SHOWCASE
JAPANESE DRESS UP DAY
Get ready for Japanese Dress Up Day on Tuesday 6th August! Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite characters from anime, traditional Japanese attire, or anything related to Japanese culture. This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and explore Japanese traditions and pop culture. Start planning your outfits and let’s make it a colourful and exciting day!
OSPS FETE SUCCESS
Our Annual Autumn Fete was a tremendous success! We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents who helped with the sushi-making. Thanks to your efforts, we sold out all the sushi and Ramune. The event was a wonderful showcase of our community spirit, and we couldn’t have done it without your support. Thank you for making it such a memorable day!
TAMBA HIGASHI PRIMARY SCHOOL VISIT
We are excited to announce that Tamba Higashi Primary School from Japan will be visiting our school from July 30th to August 7th. A group of 12 primary students and 3 staff members will be joining us for a week filled with cultural exchange and fun activities. Let’s give them a warm welcome and make their visit memorable!
WELCOME TO MIZUKI
We are delighted to welcome Mizuki from Japan, who has joined our Japanese teaching team as a volunteer assistant from the third week of Term 2 until the end of next term.
