PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

What a fantastic day we had last Saturday!! The overnight showers did not dampen the spirits of everyone setting up for another fabulous fete. It wasn’t long before the sun came out and the day was perfect.

The crowd arrived early, and the excitement could be felt as the children went on the carnival rides, had their faces painted, and ate ice cream and fairy floss way too early!!

But that is what fete day is all about!

The way everyone pulled together to make the fete happen is an amazing achievement and a credit to everyone involved. Not only is the Fete supported by our school community, but it attracts lots of locals who don’t have any connections to our school, which is wonderful.

I cannot thank the staff, parents, and children enough for their tireless work leading up to and on the day. It was certainly a fantastic day all round, with a great vibe and community feel. The feedback and compliments about the day have been extremely positive. At the end of the day, you would never have known a monstrous fete had been held only hours before!

A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE INVOLVED IN MAKING THIS FETE A SUCCESS!

Lastly, I would like to wish Nikki Virtuoso all the best who will be Acting Principal whilst I take leave for a surgical procedure.

Have a great week.

Principal

Well done to everyone involved!

OUR CUTE CHICKS HAVE BEEN HATCHING…

At the beginning of Term 2, incubators were set up in between each set of Year 3 classes, with fertile eggs to observe. Over two weeks, fluffy baby chicks hatched in our SAC rooms. Some chicks hatched at night and a few lucky students saw the chicks hatch during the day.

Following a day of rest and fluffing up in the incubator, each chick moved into their nursery, eager to explore with other curious chicks. We’re egg-static to watch them grow each day and by the end of Term 3 our little chicks will have grown into adult hens ready to lay eggs! Life on the farm is exciting!

HYDROPONICS AND FARMING IN THE GRADE 3 VILLAGE

Our hydroponics system has completed its inaugural cycle, yielding some leafy, crisp lettuce. Students have been busy working each day in the village, planting seeds, caring for seedlings and repotting plants as they grow larger. We were excited to see many of our plants sold at our school fete over the weekend.

Our garden beds are currently sprouting with a range of herbs, vegetables and flowers. Once plants have grown, our young farmers will begin the harvesting cycle, so keep your eyes peeled for the chance to snag some of the Village’s incredible produce in the months ahead!

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

This term, Grade 3 students have the opportunity to sign up to a wonderful program called Jump Rope for Heart. For more than 40 years, Jump Rope for Heart has helped to fund ground-breaking research that helps to fight heart disease. Jump Rope for Heart aims to educate people and raise money to fund research to better prevent and manage heart disease. Parents are encouraged to sign up their Grade 3 student to the program, collect sponsors and encourage your child to spend time each day skipping. We are supporting Jump Rope for Heart by taking classes outside for skipping practice each week.

YEAR 3 LITERACY CORNER

During writing groups, students are learning to engage their 5+1 senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste and emotions, to help improve their writing.

Here is a glimpse into the creative minds of Grade 3…

As I passed all the colourful stores, I could see many bright lights and candles. I could see lamps, pyramids and streets bustling with crowds of people. I could hear many loud noises, thousands of people talking and restaurants playing loud music. As I sat down I could feel the hard wood of the table and touched the soft cloth covering the table. I could taste the warm food that filled me up with energy as I took the last bite. Afterwards I had a sip of hot cocoa.

– Kaiah Lockman, 3DP

I could see bright red berries on a thorny bush. The lovely smell from the bumpy oak tree smelt fruity. I collected some shiny rocks, that felt very smooth. The crystal clear river water tasted delicious on the extremely hot day. I felt adventurous when I walked over the wooden bridge.

– Shreeya Shinde, 3NH

I could see the colourful decorations ahead of me as I walked through the beautiful market. I could hear lots of people talking about all sorts of things, like what to eat, where to go and what to buy. I touched the warm, wooden table as I sat down getting ready to eat. The smell from the candles was sweet, like a mixture of lavender and honey. I tasted the sweer drinks and the salty food in my mouth as I gobbled it all up. I felt very crowded at the market, but it was fine because I still had a good day!

– Alisha Toura, 3DP

YEAR 3 GEM

Gratitude:

In Grade 3, we are grateful for our new village where we can grow many types of plants, including flowers and vegetables. We are also grateful for our new kitchen, where we can cook, and learn about healthy eating with Ms Sakalaris.

Empathy:

We have empathy for our teachers and our parents who have been working hard to
help us before, during, and after fete.

Mindfulness:

To improve your mindfulness; remember to take a break, relax, close your eyes, listen to music, and focus on the positives.

YEAR 3 RESILIENCE PROJECT

During weekly Resilience Project lessons, the Year 3 children have been developing strategies to help those people who are in need.

Students are able to identify and describe behaviours that show empathy and can also identify emotions in others using non-verbal cues.

Here is some work from the students:
