PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

On Tuesday, OSPS came together to celebrate Harmony Day, with students arriving in a vibrant display of traditional outfits representing their cultural backgrounds or dressed in orange to show their support for inclusivity. The whole school was alive with colour, and it was wonderful to see so many students embracing and celebrating diversity.

A special thank you to the students who took to the stage to perform — you were fantastic. We also extend our gratitude to Mrs Roth and Mrs Hall for organising the performances. The Year 1 students gave a fabulous performance of the Harmony song, Better Together, adding to the spirit of the day.

Harmony Day is a time to reflect on the importance of cultural pride, respect, and belonging, and OSPS is proud to be a school that values diversity and inclusion.

NAPLAN testing has continued this week, and our students have done a wonderful job. On Wednesday and Thursday, they completed their Numeracy tests with great focus and effort. For any students who have missed a test, catch-up sessions will be available on Friday and Monday.

The Year 1 and Year 2 students have been enjoying their swimming program at GESAC, which has been a great success. Meanwhile, the Preps participated in a First Aid Incursion, where they learned the difference between small and big problems. They discussed safety hazards at home, such as hot water from taps, stovetop flames, and other potential dangers, as well as the importance of calling 000 in an emergency.

The OSPS Running Club is in full swing, with a dedicated group of students training in preparation for House Cross Country on Thursday, 24 April. Training sessions are held on Tuesday mornings and Friday lunchtimes. A big thank you to the staff who are supporting and coaching the students each week.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

SCHOOL MATTERS

HARMONY DAY CELEBRATIONS

On Tuesday the OSPS community came together to celebrate Harmony Day, a day dedicated to embracing diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Students and staff filled the school with a vibrant sea of orange and traditional cultural attire, proudly showcasing the many backgrounds that make our community so special.

Harmony Day serves as a reminder that everyone belongs, reinforcing our commitment to respect, kindness, and inclusivity. By embracing diversity, we continue to create an environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this celebration such a memorable one. We are incredibly lucky to be part of such an amazing and diverse school community!

SOMERS CAMP

Twenty-eight lucky OSPS students had the incredible opportunity to spend nine action-packed days at Somers School Camp, joining 132 students from other schools across the region!

From outdoor adventures like the Challenge Swing, Surfing, Flying Fox, and High Ropes Course to teamwork-based activities such as Initiative Challenges and Boating, students embraced every challenge with enthusiasm. Throughout the camp, they developed valuable life skills, built resilience, and formed friendships that will last a lifetime.

A huge thank you to everyone who made this experience so unforgettable!

STUDENT SHOWCASE

YEAR 1 SHOWCASE

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY

On Tuesday 11th March, we celebrated Grandparents’ Day, a morning filled with love, laughter, and gratitude. In the weeks leading up to the event, we eagerly practised songs, carefully learning the words to express just how much our grandparents mean to us. We also spent time writing heartfelt letters, sharing our love and appreciation for everything they do.

When the special day arrived, excitement filled the air. We spent the morning interviewing our grandparents, drawing pictures of each other, completing word searches, and some of us had the chance to read books and play games together, cherishing the time spent side by side.

We then gathered in the hall, ready to perform. As we sang, the room was filled with joy, and it was wonderful to share our songs with such a special audience.

After our performance, we sat together for morning tea, where our grandparents were treated to delicious food, tea, and coffee. We talked, laughed, and enjoyed the moment, making precious memories. It was a truly special day and a perfect way to celebrate the incredible people in our lives.

LITERACY CORNER

The Grade 1s have been busy becoming brilliant writers. In our writing lessons, we have been developing our descriptive writing skills, learning how to paint pictures with our words. We have explored exciting ‘WOW words’ and new adjectives to make our descriptions more detailed and engaging. From describing delicious foods to writing about our super selves and creating characters of all shapes and sizes, our writing is becoming more expressive every day. We can’t wait to keep growing as writers and share our creative ideas!

YEAR 1 GEM

We are grateful for the opportunities we have as students at OSPS, especially swimming lessons, celebrating our grandparents, and the upcoming Easter Hat Parade.

We showed empathy on Harmony Day by appreciating and learning about our friends’ diverse cultures and backgrounds.

We have been practising mindfulness by exploring body maps—identifying emotions, where we feel them, and how they affect our bodies. We have also been learning different calming strategies.

PARENT GROUP

PARENT GROUP FOOD DAYS

Over the past two Fridays, Parent Group has delighted students with special food days for each year level, serving up delicious popcorn and pizza. Our wonderful volunteers served over 1,250 slices of pizza and popped more than 200 bags of hot, buttery popcorn – a huge effort!!

We’ve received fantastic feedback from students and families, and look forward to bringing more special food days to the school community in Term 2.

Stay tuned!
