PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Yesterday, we hosted the first of our school tours for 2025. As usual, the tour was full, with over 100 interested parents. The next school tours will be during the day on 25th March, 29th April, and 22nd May. If you or anyone you know is interested in attending, please book a place at https://www.trybooking.com/CYSSU.
Next Tuesday, 11th March, the Year 1 students and staff will be hosting their annual Grandparents Day. This morning is a highlight on the OSPS calendar, and the children love having their grandparents or special friends in their classroom. The children will sing for their visitors in the hall, followed by a morning tea. The Year 1 students will perform the same songs at the Junior Assembly later in the day, and we invite their parents and carers to come and see them perform then.
Just another reminder that the NAPLAN assessments start next Wednesday for students in Years 3 and 5. A Compass notification will be sent to parents in these year levels with further information.
Thank you to the Parent Group for organising the Cinema Night last week. It was well supported by our families, and the children had lots of fun with their glow sticks and, of course, enjoyed watching Moana 2. They have also organised the pizza and popcorn days for different year levels recently and will assist with Grandparents Day next Tuesday. Without the support of the Parent Group, these events for the children could not go ahead. Thank you to everyone involved.
Lastly, a reminder that it is the Labour Day long weekend, which means there is no school on Monday, as it is a public holiday. We will see everyone back at school on Tuesday, 11th March.
Enjoy the long weekend.

Principal
SCHOOL MATTERS
HARMONY DAY – TUESDAY 18TH MARCH
Harmony Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, 18th March, providing an opportunity to embrace and honour our country’s rich diversity while promoting cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.
We invite all students to come to school dressed in their traditional outfit or in the colour orange, which symbolises social communication and meaningful conversations. The day will feature a whole-school assembly showcasing student performances of traditional dance, song, and musical instruments.
HARMONY DAY COOKIES
As part of the celebrations, the Parent Group has partnered with a local bakery to offer Harmony Day-themed cookies for $3 each. These will be distributed on Friday, 21st March. Orders close at 4:00 pm on Friday, 14th March, and can be placed via the link on Compass.
For any questions, please contact the Parent Group at osparentgroup67@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing our students proudly wearing their traditional attire or adding a splash of orange to celebrate this meaningful day!

THE RESILIENCE PROJECT
GEM CHATS
GEM Chats are daily conversation starters provided by TRP that encourage reflection on the GEM values: being grateful, empathetic, and mindful. We encourage parents to ask their child the prompt and engage in a discussion about these values. By making GEM Chats a part of your routine, you can help reinforce these positive habits and support your child’s ongoing wellbeing and emotional literacy.
STUDENT SHOWCASE
ART SHOWCASE
Our Prep students have embarked on an exciting and imaginative journey into the world of art, exploring portraits and the fundamentals of drawing the human body. It has been a joy to watch them experiment with different shapes, lines, and forms to express themselves creatively. Through this process, they are not only learning the basics of artistic representation but also having fun as they capture their own likeness and those of others.
Year 1
Year 1 students have been immersed in the world of portraiture and colour, experimenting with a wide range of shades and hues to bring their artwork to life. Using different media, they have created their own self-portraits, each reflecting their individuality and unique artistic style.
Year 2
Year 2 students have been exploring observational drawing, focusing on the intricate world of bugs and insects. By closely studying details such as wing textures and stripe patterns, they have been translating their observations into detailed and expressive artworks. Through this process, they are refining their ability to see and capture fine details with increasing precision.
Year 3
Year 3 students have been delving into the concepts of symmetry and colour, learning how warm and cool tones can create striking, balanced designs. Using the colour wheel, they have been experimenting with contrasting colours to enhance the visual impact of their work. It has been exciting to see their technical skills and creativity develop throughout this process.
Year 4
In Year 4, students have been deepening their understanding of the colour wheel, exploring primary, secondary, and complementary colours. Their ability to mix and match colours to create vibrant, eye-catching artworks has flourished, and they are applying this knowledge with growing confidence in their artistic projects.
Year 5
Year 5 students have been investigating the relationship between colour and light, experimenting with techniques to depict light and shadow in their artwork. By observing how different light sources—whether natural or artificial—affect colours and depth, they are developing a greater understanding of how to create atmosphere and realism in their pieces.
Year 6
To start the year, Year 6 students have been exploring Picasso’s iconic portrait style, using his abstract and deconstructed approach as inspiration. They have been experimenting with their own versions of abstract portraits, embracing new ways of representing the human face and pushing the boundaries of traditional portraiture. Their bold and imaginative interpretations showcase their creativity and willingness to explore new artistic techniques.
SPORT REPORT
INTER-SCHOOL SPORT
The girls’ team had a closely contested match, with an electrifying finish. Zara scored the winning point with just 15 seconds left on the clock, leading the team to a 5-4 victory against Oakleigh Grammar. A phenomenal effort – well done!
PARENT GROUP
MOVIE NIGHT
Last Friday, we wrapped up summer in style with our annual ‘Cinema Under the Stars’ night, where over 350 people gathered to enjoy Moana 2 under the evening sky. Before the movie began, children ran around excitedly, waving their glow products, while families relaxed and socialised on the oval. The hall foyer was also buzzing as everyone collected their snacks.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped keep the oval clean! Special appreciation goes to the Parent Group for organising the event, as well as the parent volunteers who made it possible. We also extend our gratitude to current and past students, Darren N. and Raf A., for generously giving their time to support the event. Your efforts made the night a fantastic success!
