Wow, what an incredible day it was for our Athletics team at Duncan McKinnon last Thursday!
Overcast skies greeted schools from across the district for the annual District Carnival, and the track and field were buzzing with energy from start to finish.
The field events brought plenty to celebrate, with Sam H., Jack O., Taylani C., Adrian N. and Hugo L. all winning their respective events. A host of others also finished second, securing a place at Division.
The track is where our school truly shines, and this year was no exception. An incredible 17 students qualified for Division in their individual events, and every single relay team also made it through. These outstanding performances secured Oakleigh South first place overall, with the shield proudly accepted by our Athletics Captains Alwyn, Erika, Taylani and Oliver M., who delivered an excellent closing speech.
This victory marks 19 wins from the last 20 District Carnivals, an extraordinary achievement and a true testament to the strength of our program. For a zoned school, this record is simply remarkable.
We were also thrilled to see such strong parent support throughout the day. There is nothing better than watching a student give their absolute best with their family cheering them on, and even better, the encouragement extended to students from all schools, creating a fantastic atmosphere.
Below, you can watch Drewin from 5LG powering down the track during his sprint, perfectly capturing the determination, skill and energy that made the day such a success.
A huge thank you to Mr Mooney and Athletics Coach Miss Gunning, whose leadership and dedication make results like these possible. The program they run sets our students up to achieve their personal best, and the number of students heading to Division speaks for itself.
Special thanks also go to Mr Nugent and Mr Wintersea for supporting students between events, Miss Strugnell for her work behind the scenes, and our House Captains who helped out across the day.
Congratulations to everyone who participated, and best of luck to our students heading to Division. We could not be prouder!
