PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
What week we have had at OSPS!!
The week got off to a great start on Monday and Tuesday evening when the Silver cast performed the first show of ‘Frozen Jnr’. Then Wednesday afternoon and last night the Aqua cast performed their shows. Wow, our students are so talented and absolutely everyone who was on the stage gave it their all, whether they were acting, singing or dancing.
At OSPS we are very proud of the quality production performances we deliver, but it takes hours and hours of hard work behind the scenes, working together as a team so the students have the best experience possible. To everyone involved, the staff, parents and students you all helped make ‘Frozen Jnr’ an incredible show. These productions take hours and hours of rehearsals not to mention the time put into costumes, sets, lighting, special effects, etc, etc, etc. Thank you everyone. ‘Frozen Jnr’ was a credit to everyone!
A huge congratulations to Drewin from year 4 for his outstanding results at the State Athletics trials this week. Drewin made the state team and will be representing Victoria in the 100 metres, relay and high jump at the National Championships in Sydney at the end November. Well done, Drewin!
Last Saturday our RoboCup students competed at the RoboCup State Finals. Our talented teams showcased their skills and creativity, making us incredibly proud. Our students worked tirelessly to design, build, and program their robots using LEGO Ev3 and Spike for the various activities at the event. All our teams did extremely well, with our Primary Rescue Line team taking 2nd Place. Congratulations to the staff, led by Mr Eykman, and the parents who supported the students on the day.
Lastly, remember to keep on reading and do your Mathletics and Reading Eggs whenever you can. Have a restful break whether you are at home or away on holidays.
See you all back at school on Monday 7th October, a reminder there is a Curriculum Day on Wednesday 16th October.
Have a wonderful break!

As always, Parent Group has done an amazing job, running multiple, successful events including the Father’s Day stall & numerous food celebration days.
Thankyou to all the parents who have volunteered their time to ensure these events can be held.
We would also like to thank all the teachers & staff who have also put in so much time and effort to deliver wonderful experiences for the students.
Events such as the Year 6 production of Frozen, athletics and sports competitions, Victorian State School Spectacular, Robo Cup and all these exeriences would simply not be possible without the support and dedication of the OSPS staff.
We wish all our OSPS families a safe & happy holiday & look forward to welcoming everyone back in term 4.

REMINDER: SUN PROTECTION MEASURES
With the warmer weather approaching, it’s important to remind everyone about our sun protection rules. Starting from Monday, 2nd September, all students are required to wear their sun-protective hats during outdoor activities. Please ensure your child brings their hat back to school this week, as the NO HAT, NO PLAY rule will be strictly enforced. Students without a hat will need to stay in shaded areas or be supervised indoors during recess and lunch breaks.
Students are also welcome to bring sunscreen to apply before going outside. It’s a good habit to start using sunscreen, especially as UV levels rise. We encourage families to support these sun safety measures to protect against overexposure to harmful UV rays.
For more details, you can review our SunSmart Policy on the school website, which outlines our approach to keeping students sun safe during school hours and at events.
Let’s all work together to stay sun smart and enjoy the sunshine safely!
STUDENT SHOWCASE
YEAR 1 SHOWCASE
Last week the Year 1’s went to Scienceworks as part of our Integrated Studies unit, “Creative Arcade”. We looked at different forces and motions including gravity, push and pull and elasticity. The newer upstairs area ‘Beyond Perception’ was a huge hit, as was Sportsworks and Think Ahead. We explored what the future might look like, tested out our athletic skills and learnt about how toys work. All of the students had a fabulous day and enjoyed interacting with the activities and exhibits, especially in the interactive Toy Show. This inspired us even more to finish building our very own arcade games. We are looking forward to sharing our fun-tastic games with parents and special friends during the week.
LITERACY CORNER
In Literacy, we have been learning more about persuasive writing. We have learnt to share our opinions, include supporting reasons and choose emotive phrases. Did you hear what happened in some of the Year 1 classrooms recently? OUR CHAIRS QUIT!! Just like ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’, it was a catastrophe! We had to write a persuasive letter to convince our chairs to come back. Thank goodness they did… Phew!!
The Year 1’s have also been busy learning about recount writing. There was lots to write about with all of the exciting events we have had this term, including Potato Olympics, Book Week Dress Up Day + author visit, SuperHiro Dress Up Day, our Bully Zero Incursion and of course, our excursion!
Here are some of the Year 1’s Scienceworks recount writing:
PREP GEM
GRATITUDE: We are grateful for having so many fun incursions and excursions this term!
EMPATHY: Let’s remember to check in and ask others if they are feeling okay? Being a good listener is important too.
MINDFULNESS: Listening to different types of music helps us to express our emotions.
The Year 1’s have been learning all about how we can show our emotions through music and drama. Fast tempos make us happy and boppy and slow tempos make us feel calm. We even got to create some mime performances. We have also been learning about what it means to be a good friend, with students writing their own ‘friendship recipe’.
