PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Although we have had some beautiful sunny days recently, the cold weather is certainly settling in. With the change of weather brings many infectious germs which are transmitted easily between the students. This is a friendly reminder that if your child is unwell at all in the morning before school, please do not send them. Many students arrive at school coughing, feeling miserably unwell and vomiting. They will be sent to sick bay and will need to be picked up. Thank you for your understanding as we work together to keep our school community healthy and safe.

This week we had a medical emergency which required ambulance assistance for a student who had a medical condition, thankfully we had an up to date plan and up to date medication at hand to be able to provide the best care until the ambulance arrived and the student has made a full recovery. However, we have approximately 50 students who still have not provided the school with a current and up to date plan or medication for their condition of asthma, hayfever and or allergies. All of these families have been sent numerous e-mail reminders to provide the school with the information and medication. Please, I emplore parents of a child with a medical condition who have received such a recent e-mail to act. Action plans can be found on our school wesbite under the news and events tab.

The Year 4 students have had a ball this week as their production of ‘Gladis Bake Gladiator’ came together in their full-dress rehearsals. Next week is showtime. Don’t forget to buy your tickets for this fantastic show, the Year 4 students would love to perform to a full house!!

This week we launched our upcoming ‘Green and Gold Day’ this week on Facebook. Next term on Friday 19th July, the whole school will be celebrating the Olympics with a dress up day. Students are invited to come to school dressed in green and gold clothing to show their support for our Australian athletes, or in colours that represent a country of their choice.

Our school will be holding a whole school OSPS Olympic Opening Ceremony at 2:15 pm on this date. Please read the flyer in the newsletter for more information.

Just a reminder that next week is the last week of Term 2 and the students will be dismissed at 2:30pm on Friday 28th June. All students return to school on Monday 15th July.

Have a great weekend.

Acting Principal

STUDENT SHOWCASE

YEAR 4 SHOWCASE

LITERACY CORNER

Reconciliation involves building positive, respectful relationships between all Australians and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. It helps to create a positive change and to help Australians learn about their shared histories, cultures and achievements.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples have faced many challenges and inequality over the years. These things have prevented them from reaching their potential. Being able to reconcile with them will help lead to respect and better relationships and partnerships.

As part of ‘Reconciliation Week’, Year 4 students wrote some wonderful Acrostic poems reflecting on the words SORRY and RECONCILIATION.

YEAR 4 GEM

G: We are GRATEFULfor the land in which we can learn on and for not having to have faced the challenge the families of the Stolen Generation faced.

E: We are EMPATHETIC towards all those affected by the Stolen Generation.

M: We show MINDFULNESS by taking the time to stop and remember the traditional owners of the land and celebrate their achievements.

YEAR 4 PRODUCTION

With two dress rehearsals completed, the Year 4s cannot wait for their performance nights, next Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th June, of their Production, ‘Gladis Baker Gladiator’.

We could not be prouder of our students. They have worked tirelessly week after week, memorising lines, singing songs and learning dance moves to deliver an amazing show.

Tickets are now on sale via trybooking.com for the whole school.

We can’t wait to see you at the Year 4 Production!

YEAR 6 INDIGENOUS COOKING

On the 17th of June, we visited South Oakleigh Secondary College to participate in an Indigenous cooking experience to celebrate NAIDOC week. Ms Jessie Matheson showed us some indigenous herbs and plants growing around the college site, specifically warrigal greens and lemon myrtle and we then ventured into the college kitchen. We were met by the Year 10 cafe catering students who were our assistants for the session. Lemon myrtle and white chocolate butter biscuits were on the menu with the Year 10 students helping us navigate the kitchen and follow the recipe. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and the results of our efforts were scrumptious!
