In 2022 a group of year 4 OSPS students (now in year 6) ventured to Government House to participate in writing workshop as part of a reserach project for Australian Catholic University and Melbounre University academics. We worked with non for profit organisation Kids’ Own Publishing to produce and publish a book for children by children.

Students viewed the diverse visual art collection on display and participate in an eight-page bookmaking workshop led by artists, which was held in the expansive grand ballroom.

Before making the books, students were welcomed to Government House through African drumming with storyteller Agum Maluach, and introduced to the work of the facilitating artists Bern Emmerichs and Ching Ching Liang.

It was a rich context that encouraged our participating students to explore the freedom to create their own book using collage materials and other art-making techniques.

Huge thanks to Kelly Hall for facilitating this group of students and Nikki Virtuoso for all the coordination and organisation.
