It was fantastic to see 26 Oakleigh South Primary School students participate in the RoboCup Junior Australia Outer East Regional Competition. It was an amazing experience that showcased the talents and creativity of our young students who are passionate about robotics and technology. Our school participated in the rescue sections of the competition against several other schools in the outer eastern region. Each category had its own set of challenges, and the students worked tirelessly to come up with innovative solutions to the problems presented.

One of the most impressive aspects of the competition was the level of collaboration and teamwork displayed by the students. It was clear that we had spent countless hours working together to design, build, and program our robots. The rescue category, for example, required us to build a robot that could navigate to a simulated disaster zone and transport objects out of a designated area. Our Primary competitors had additional obstacles including a see-saw, short cuts and debris to navigate. It was fascinating to see the different approaches that teams took to tackle the challenges.

We are proud to say that we won a gold medal in both the Riley Rover section and the Primary Line Following section. A big congratulations to Year 6 students Dhruv, Olivia, Charlie and Liyah for finishing first in Riley Rover, and Alexa, Jeremy, Raf and Alicia for winning the Primary section. Further congratulations to all of the teams for their efforts and they should all be proud of their accomplishments.

A big thank you to our teachers and mentors Mr Eykman, Mr Davey, Miss Philipsen, Mr Wintersea, Mr Mason-Parker, Miss Nasiou and Mr Le for giving up their time before school, at recess and lunch. Thanks also to parent Nir Drabkin for volunteering to help on the day as well.

We all look forward to our next challenge, State Finals, next month in September. Good luck teams!
