PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

IT’S FETE WEEK!!!

This Saturday our wonderful Autumn Family Fete will be on.

The classroom teachers are putting the finishing touches to their stall timetables so if you haven’t volunteered to work on your child’s stall, please do so as soon as possible. Our amazing fete committee and our staff are doing a fantastic job tying up all the loose ends in readiness for the big day.

DON’T MISS OUT ON YOUR WRISTBAND FOR THE RIDES!!!

The ride wristbands will be on sale for $45 each till Friday 10am. These wristbands offer great value as the children can access the rides between 10am – 3pm, unlimited!! After 3pm all rides will be for sale at individual prices. The wristbands will not be available for sale on the fete day. If you have purchased a wristband, the ticket will be sent home on Friday. Bring the ticket to the Fete to collect your wristband.

Our Fete is a group effort so I would like to thank everyone in advance for their hard work. I know it will pay off on Saturday when Oakleigh South PS has another amazing Fete day.

While our focus is on the Fete, our very excited year 6 students moved into their new classrooms on Monday. They all did such a wonderful job with the move, with our school value of, ‘Working Together’ very evident. The students looked very happy and proud working in their new classrooms after they settled. There was definitely a positive buzz in the air.

I look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

Have a great week.

Ron

CONGRATULATIONS ADITIYA

Congratulations to Oakleigh South Primary School’s Sustainability Captain, Aditya, who recently inspired the Mayor of Monash with his ideas for a greener and cleaner Earth.

Check out the Mayor’s message and Aditya’s tips for living sustainably in the Monash article:

Welcome to the Autumn edition of Monash Student Space, the first for 2023.

As a Child and Young People Friendly City, Monash supports and empowers our younger residents to be active citizens of our city. Monash Student Space is one of the ways to stay engaged, providing young people aged 10-17 with a platform to talk about the things that interest them and to keep them informed about what’s happening at Council.

In this edition, you will find articles and stories that reflect the issues some Monash young people are passionate about, whether it’s the humane treatment of animals, a compelling argument for more pharmaceutical innovation or an insightful reflection on defeat and resilience.

I was struck by 11-year-old student Adithya’s passion for sustainability in his article on how everyone can do their bit to build a better future. As the level of government closest to the community, sustainability is something Council is committed to as well. In 2020, we set the ambitious goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2025 and I’m proud to report that we’ve already exceeded our intermediate target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 60% in the first two years.

As Mayor it is my privilege to meet and speak with so many community groups and organisations, but it’s our youngest residents who have me most excited about Monash’s future.

There are so many ways that we can work together to, in Adithya’s words, ‘make small changes’ or ‘make bigger changes’. I encourage everyone to continue to share your ideas, listen and learn from each other’s experiences and find ways to get involved in our communities and neighbourhoods, and I look forward to hearing from you in the year ahead.

Mayor Tina Samardzija
