PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

On Monday the Year 1 children welcomed their grandparents and grand-friends into their classrooms to celebrate Grandparent’s Day. The year 1 building was full of proud, loving grandparents and happy, excited grandchildren. The children played games, read books and coloured together with their visitors. They then went to the hall where they performed a collection of special songs followed by the grandparents enjoying refreshments as the children ate their lunch. Thank you to the teachers and parent group who helped make this a truly wonderful day for everyone.

The whole school celebrated Harmony Day on Tuesday. The children dressed in many shades of orange to show support for cultural diversity and an inclusiveness in Australia.

Did you know that we have over 28 different countries represented by the families in our school? It was a great day to recognise our wonderful multicultural school.

As we approach the final week of term one, I’d like to remind you that there will be two assemblies, one on Tuesday and the final one on Thursday at 1.45pm. The prep, 1 and 2 children will also have their annual Easter Hat Parade on Wednesday at 9.15am. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Have a great weekend.

Ron Cantlon
Principal

Help wanted!
We have so much to do to pot up plants to sell at the fete. The kids did a great job striking cuttings last year and now we would love some help. If there are any year 3 parents who can lend a hand for an hour or two of a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday morning please see Julie Kearney or Diane Dwyer.

STUDENT SHOWCASE

Year 1 Grandparents’ Day

What a wonderful Monday morning the Year 1’s had treating their grandparents! We were very lucky to have grandparents travel from all over Melbourne, interstate and even internationally to visit us at school to share in our special Grandparents’ Day. We had over 180 grandparents attend!!

To begin the celebrations, our grandparents engaged in many fun activities in our classrooms. Interactive Bingo, making bookmarks, drawing family portraits and playing card games were just a few of the fun activities that were on offer. After having loads of fun in the classrooms, our grandparents were treated to a singing performance in the hall. We sang Do-Re-Mi, It’s a Beautiful Day, Oh Grandma Grandpa and L.O.V.E. Tears of joy, laughter and applause were heard as the Year 1’s sung and danced so wonderfully. The rest of the school will get to see some of our songs performed at assembly next week. Our grandparents then enjoyed a delicious spread of sandwiches, cakes and yummy party food.

Thank you to Marsh Sensei for helping us learn our different songs and the OSPS Parent Group for setting up and preparing the food. Thank you to our Year 1 teachers for all of their organising and last but not least, a ginormous THANK YOU to our grandparents for making our day so memorable and special.

DVDs of the Year 1’s Grandparents Day performance will be able for purchase via QKR, under Special Charges. Please ensure you specify the date of the performance- Grandparents Day 19/3/18.
