Our next meeting, with the newly elected parents, will be held on Wednesday 25th March
Yesterday the Year 1 children enjoyed a very special morning with their grandparents. Our visitors enjoyed time in the classroom then were entertained with beautiful singing from the children. Thank you to the Parent Group who organised refreshments and food for the Grandparents to enjoy and the Year 1 teachers organised this very memorable day for the children and their visitors.
Well done to the children that represented our school at the Bentleigh Division Swimming carnival last Friday. Our swimming team swam very well and should be congratulated on their performances and great sportsmanship.
Have a great week.
Ron Cantlon
Principal

SUPERVISION AND PARKING
Parking
A reminder to parents and carers are NOT to use the Staff Car Park, or the disabled parks, regardless of the time of day. It is NOT to be used as a quick drop off or collection point.
This includes after Choir on a Wednesday
Please make sure you do your civic duty to follow the road laws and rules. This includes parking correctly in the signed areas, and completing 3 point turns in the middle in the intersection!
We also urge parents to please remember to be patient and polite when using the Oval Carpark, and be good role models for all the children witnessing their behaviour. With over 800 families, drop off and collection times will be busy and you will need to plan your time accordingly.
Please click here for further parking information oakleighsouthps.vic.edu.au/about-us/#parking
Supervision
Yard duty before school commences at 8:45 am.
After school teachers are in the grounds until 3:45 pm. Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).
Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not arrive early or stay late after school unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. running club).
SCHOOL MATTERS

All proceeds go to assisting Year 6 initiatives.

A casual clothes day will be held Wed 25th March.
Please send your child dressed in casual clothes and bring a $2 coin donation.
The Lucky Ducks and Knock ‘em Down stalls requiring prizes will be well on their way to being fully stocked.

Cross Country
This year the House Cross Country will be held on Thursday 26th March for all children in Grades 3 – 6. The children are all familiar with the course as they have run it in their PE lessons. We start on the front oval, run up the lane and finish on the front oval.
The children run in their age group.
Children that turn 8, 9, and 10 this year run 2000m.
Children that turn 11 this year run 3000m.
Children that turn 12 or 13 this year run 3000m.
Children will be notified the week before the Cross Country, the exact time their age group will run.
Children are encouraged to come dressed in the colour of their “House” – House T -shirts can be purchased from the office for $20. These t-shirts are not compulsory.
STUDENT SHOWCASE

Sustainability News
This term, our wonderful Sustainability Captains, Mithuna and Sidd from 6FW, have been busy collecting the names of our energy monitors from each class.
Teachers are being reminded to turn off lights and their interactive whiteboards when they are not needed.
The wise energy owl has popped up during assembly, with his friend Daniel, to spread the message about saving energy in classrooms. Your children might remind you about saving energy at home.

Clean Up Australia Day
On Friday February 28th, it was National Clean Up Australia Day in schools.
The students of OSPS did us proud and made sure our playground was free of rubbish. Each class completed a rubbish report at the end of the clean – up.
Food wrappers were the most common form of rubbish. We need to look at ways of combating this, including “nude food” days and making sure students finish their lunches in specific areas.

Ride to School Day
National Ride to School Day is next Friday, March 13th. It’s a great chance to leave the Car at home or drop your children off so they can ride, scoot or walk part of the way.
Over 350,000 students around Australia will be taking part. This gives children the chance to contribute towards their minimum of 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
Active travel to school can result in improved muscle and bone development as well as increased cardiovascular function.
We hope to see loads of bikes, scooters and walkers on the day.
