PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Last Friday night the movie screening was postponed due to the forecast inclement weather. It has been moved to this Friday night, the 21st of February. If you have tickets and can’t make it this week, a full refund is available. Further details below in this newsletter.
Just a reminder if your child is unwell please keep them at home. We have a number of people in our school community with suppressed immunity conditions and it is important to everyone to minimise the spread of germs. We really appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Please take the time to read the information regarding Qkr in this newsletter. There are some clarifications which will help everyone to use the system correctly. Make sure you only pay for the activities that relate to your child. If you are unsure about any matters regarding Qkr, please contact the office. Thank you.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the week.

SUPERVISION AND PARKING
Parking
A reminder to parents and carers are NOT to use the Staff Car Park, or the disabled parks, regardless of the time of day. It is NOT to be used as a quick drop off or collection point.
This includes after Choir on a Wednesday
Please make sure you do your civic duty to follow the road laws and rules. This includes parking correctly in the signed areas, and completing 3 point turns in the middle in the intersection!
We also urge parents to please remember to be patient and polite when using the Oval Carpark, and be good role models for all the children witnessing their behaviour. With over 800 families, drop off and collection times will be busy and you will need to plan your time accordingly.
Please click here for further parking information oakleighsouthps.vic.edu.au/about-us/#parking
Supervision
Yard duty before school commences at 8:45 am.
After school teachers are in the grounds until 3:45 pm. Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).
Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not arrive early or stay late after school unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. running club).
SCHOOL MATTERS

Qkr!
Please make sure you have completed the following steps
- Updated your child’s Class and Year level for 2020 on Qkr. Please ensure you have registered your child, not yourself.
Payments are matched by family code, and if your student profile is incorrect we are unable to process your payments.
- ONLY pay for items you have received CareMonkey notices for, and are showing on your statement.
Items will still show in the Qkr menu until the event window closes, even if you have paid.
Essential Learning Fees and Voluntary Contributions will show for the whole year.
You can check your Qkr receipts by clicking on the “Activity” tab at the top of the first Qkr screen.
If you are unsure whether you have paid for something please contact the Office on 9570 1016 BEFORE making a payment.
Thank you

CareMonkey
Please make sure you have followed the CareMonkey link and completed your child’s CareMonkey Profile.
A number of year levels now have events, and without a completed profile, permission has not been given for your child to attend.
If you wish to have Parent B added to CareMonkey please email caremonkey@oakleighsouthps.vic.edu.au, stating the name and email address of the Parent to be added, your child’s name and class.
Your child’s CareMonkey profile must match the details you have provided us on enrolment forms, and is the information that we refer to in an emergency.
If you child has Asthma, Anaphylaxis or an Allergy, you need to upload a clear copy of the plan, with a clear head shot photo to CareMonkey, and a paper copy and medication to the Office.
Allergies and asthma are medically diagnosed conditions, and require a current action plan and medication to be provided.
In the event of your child out growing a condition, please notify us in writing so we can remove it from their profile.
If you are unsure what further information is required, please contact the Office on 9570 1016 or via the CareMonkey email above.
Thank you

Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup
The final of the women’s T20 Cricket World Cup is at the MCG on International Women’s Day.
It’s the Sunday, March 8th and Katy Perry is playing at the MCG before and after the match
Let’s fill the MCG and set a world record for attendance at a women’s sporting event. That said, the occasion is bigger than a cricket match or a major sporting event. We can aim to set a world record that helps accelerate the pursuit of gender equality in Australia and around the world.
A great day out, watching women’s cricket, and Katy Perry and hopefully setting a world record!!
Adults tickets are starting at $20 and kids’ tickets are just $5.
Please click here to book tickets and share this message with others in our local community.
Thanks so much for your support and let’s be part of setting a world record with our families and friends on International Women’s Day.

Parking Issues
The streets immediately around Oakleigh South Primary School are extremely congested during the morning and afternoon peak periods. We hold great concern for the safety of our students due to dangerous and/or discourteous driving at these times.
We have, unfortunately, already received a number of complaints from our neighbours in relation to drivers’ behaviours when dropping off or collecting students. It is of the utmost importance that all students arrive at, and leave, school safely.
Please be mindful of others and take the time and consideration to ensure that the neighbouring streets are safe for all pedestrians and drivers. Not only will student arrival and departure times be safer; there will be less stress too.
After numerous reminders that the staff carpark is strictly for staff use only, and a number of close calls involving students in the carpark, as of today, the staff carpark will now be locked after lunch, access will be given to parents with students registered in aftercare.
Thank you

Camps, Sports, Excursions Fund (CSEF)
The Victorian Government offer a Sports, Camps and Excursions Fund for families who hold a valid means-tested concession card are eligible to apply. A special consideration category also exists.
A payment of $125 for eligible primary school students and $225 for eligible secondary school students will be paid directly to the school to be used toward camps, sports and excursion costs for the student’s benefit.
CSEF payments to schools will commence from 1 March onwards. Schools are able to continue processing applications until the end of Term 2.

School Banking
Thank you to all the families who have updated their student’s class on their bank book, and are filling in the deposit forms correctly. This makes processing deposits and returning books so much easier!
As explained last week, we have decided to 🌳 GO GREEN 🌳and stop issuing plastic tokens each week. Instead, we will place a number on the back of each deposit receipt, which will represent the number of deposits your child has made. Once you’ve qualified for a reward, we will let you know. This will reduce plastic waste, and will also eliminate issues we have had in the past with kids not having enough tokens (due to borrowing brother/ sister tokens, or one of the banking volunteers making a mistake and giving out extra).
You can track your child’s deposit count at any time by installing the Comm Bank Youth App or by checking your child’s receipt butts.
Please support us during this transition. If you have any queries, please pop a note in your child’s banking wallet.
This term’s rewards are The Terry Denton Activity book 📗 and the Mini Soccer Ball ⚽️
Thank you

STAFF SHOWCASE
Art Team

Rochelle Hunt
I have been a teacher at OSPS for 8 years. Before working at OSPS I was a university lecturer, teaching students how to be Art Teachers. When I’m not teaching I like to paint and exhibit my work. For the first time I this year I have entered a portrait piece into the Archibald Portraiture Prize. I am a also planning for my first solo art exhibition.
Penelope Cato
I have been thoroughly enjoying reconnecting with my creative side working in the Artroom with the children and staff at O.S.P.S. It is a strong contrast to my previous employment in retail/human resource management and teaching Interior Design at Holmesglen TAFE. I have a background in design which crosses over into all areas of my life be it cooking, gardening or home improvement; all interests I share with my family.
Janet Wilkin
I have been at OSPS for 10 years and I am loving working in the art room. I enjoy knitting and sewing and have contributed to many of the costumes for the school productions. Some of my knitting projects are donated to Kogo charity and was knitting joey pouches over the summer for the Bushfire Animal relief projects around Victoria. I enjoy animals and am a bit of a nature lover. Favourite holiday spot is the Grampians. I’m looking forward to the exciting projects and initiatives this year in the art room.
