Tomorrow we welcome our 2018 Prep children to our school at 9.30am to meet their teacher and classmates for next year. I’m sure there will be lots of excitement from the children as they edge closer to becoming primary school students. The parents are welcome to have refreshments and a chat in the hall foyer while their children are with their class.

We were pondering last week how many books are borrowed from our library in a year. Mrs Sally Bahnsen, our library support staff member was able to use our borrowing system to calculate that number.

To our surprise it was a staggering 39,473 books that have been borrowed in this school year to date!

As a rough calculation, that means on average, each students borrows approximately 40 books per year which equates to one book per week. Being in the library before and after school during the year, I saw just how busy it is as the children come and go borrowing their Accelerated Readers. I loved seeing their keenness in their borrowing as they work toward their A.R. goal.

Have a great weekend

Ron Cantlon

Sports and Captaincy Photos

Sports and Captaincy photos are available for viewing and ordering at the Office.

Please look through the green display book and complete an order forms in the back of the book.

Photos are $12 each.

Orders close tomorrow, Friday, 8th December

A reminder that all books are returned by Friday, 15th December.

However, students will be able to borrow one book on Monday and Tuesday during the last week of term and return by Wednesday.

Please check all those sneaky little nooks and crannies where books like to hide – book shelves, under beds, in sport’s bags, grandparent’s homes even under the seats in cars – as we still have a large amount of overdue books which need to be returned to the library before the end year.

We ask that all parents please make sure they have the Flexibuzz App on their phones or tablets.

This is our primary communication method – with reminders, weekly newsletters, camp/excursion return times and any other required alerts.

This form of communication provides you with the most up to date information, and saves you having to contact the school.

Please make sure you have selected the “All Parents” option, as well as your child’s current “Year Level” tab.

Thank you

Hosting a Japanese language assistant teacher in February 2018

Our school has been selected to host a female Japanese university student as part of the Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language (TJFL) program managed by the Department of Education & Training. She will be with us for 4 weeks from Saturday February 17 – Saturday March 17 2018.

We are looking for a host family with no pets as she has an allergy to cats and dogs. The host family will also be expected to provide 3 meals per day, daily transport to and from school as well as some weekend activities. A contribution of $200/week will be paid to you by the TJFL participant via our school to assist with expenses.

If you would like to be a host family, please complete the following EXPRESSION OF INTEREST information and return it to the office by Tuesday 5th December.

Year 4 – Craft Power Incursion

On Tuesday, 28th and Wednesday, 29th November the Year 4 students participated in an incursion called “Craft Power”.

With our integrated unit this term focusing on Design and Technology, energy and movement, this was the perfect program to provide students with valuable hands on skills and knowledge.

Craft Power allows students to experience using saws, hammers, nails and workbenches to create a practical item. In our case we got to build a “Billycart” that was powered by a friction gear box.

The students had a fabulous time building their cars in just under 2 hours. Many of them had fun painting and racing their billycarts at school before they got to take home their moving model.
