PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
We are quickly moving towards the end of the year and that means the Year 6 children are busily organising themselves for their Graduation. This year it will be held on Tuesday 17th December.
I would like to congratulate Amber from 3JS for her outstanding achievement in the UNSW tests. Amber scored 100% for both Science and Spelling. She was invited to a special ceremony where she received medals for both tests. Well done Amber on your excellent achievement.
Next week there will be lots of activities for both students and parents centred on the opening of our amazing digital technology centre. There will be an Information Night next Tuesday 10th December. The Robotics lab will be showcased with a resources demonstration at 6pm. This will be followed by a ‘THINKUKNOW’ presentation which is a cyber-safety education program. Please visit the school’s website to RSVP by December 9th. Please see the flyer in this newsletter for further details.
This Friday our 2020 Preps will come to school to meet their teacher and classmates. I know this will be a very exciting time for them.
Have a great week.
Ron Cantlon
Principal

Parking
A reminder to parents and carers are NOT to use the Staff Car Park, or the disabled parks, regardless of the time of day. It is NOT to be used as a quick drop off or collection point.
This includes after Choir on a Wednesday
Please make sure you do your civic duty to follow the road laws and rules. This includes parking correctly in the signed areas, and completing 3 point turns in the middle in the intersection!
We also urge parents to please remember to be patient and polite when using the Oval Carpark, and be good role models for all the children witnessing their behaviour. With over 800 families, drop off and collection times will be busy and you will need to plan your time accordingly.
Please click here for further parking information oakleighsouthps.vic.edu.au/about-us/#parking

After school teachers are in the grounds until 3:45 pm. Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).
Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not arrive early or stay late after school unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. running club).

Worms for Sale
Order an Oakleigh South Primary School Worm Pack (worms bred and raised by the year 3 farmers)
RECYCLE all of your organic waste into beautiful garden compost and help to reduce foodstuffs going to landfill.
Our Grade 3s are trying to encourage our community to become active recyclers and carers for our environment. The farmers are culling our thriving worm farms to make up special compost worm recycling kits.
Each kit will contain approx. 500 fat hungry compost/ red/ tiger worms and will include instructions on how to set up your own worm farm.
Alternatively, with a slight modification (placing your compost bin on a bed or wire) you can add our compost worms to your current compost bin.
OUR “Earth Repair Worm Kit “will reduce foodstuffs going to landfill and provide you with wonderful castings for your garden. A worm kit will also make a great Christmas present.
Order forms are available at the Office, and the Class teacher.
The 2019 Grade 3 Villagers
Please pay on Qkr and return form to The Village

STUDENT SHOWCASE

Year 1 Scienceworks Excursion
On Tuesday the 26th of November, our Year 1 students arrived at school jumping up and down with excitement ready for our excursion to Scienceworks!
We saw lots of amazing and interactive exhibits in ‘Think Ahead’ where we explored what the future might look like. Students got to design their own cars, scan their bodies and add cool futuristic features and look at how cameras, computers and telephones have evolved over time.
In Sportsworks we got to test our athletic skills. We measured our strength and reflexes, scaled the rock climbing wall, raced in wheel chairs and of course had lots of fun racing each other against our Australian Olympian Cathy Freeman.
We especially loved going to the Energy Lab’s Toys and Forces show. Owen had us in fits of laughter with his wacky toy tricks and we learnt a song all about the forces and motions we have been experimenting with this term: push/pull, gravity and elasticity (formally known as squishing!)
Owen also showed us how he created some of his very own toys and even made some ginormous version, which made us even more pumped for our Caine’s Arcade projects.
We were all very exhausted after such a big day and many of us had a sneaky nap on the bus ride back to school.
A huge THANK YOU to our wonderful parent helpers and our fantastic Year 1 team who helped make our day run so smoothly.

Music
Seoyoung from 4TM has been learning the piano for 4 years by a friend of the family. Seoyoung will be doing her grade 4 exam this year. We were delighted to hear Seoyoung play the piano at assembly, the piece was called ‘fox trot’ and was played with perfection.
Well done Seoyoung for a terrific performance showcasing your musical talents! All the best with the year 4 exam.
Music – Out of Hours Music Program
The OSPS out of school hours music program run by Perry for Keyboard and Guitar is extremely popular for families. Perry and his guitar students performed two songs at assembly.
A great demonstration of the instrumental music program offered out of school hours by one of our valued suppliers.
