PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Our Gift of Education – to the Children of Tigray
Our Gift of Education – to the Children of Tigray
Dear Parents
The 2019 fundraising for Tigray has been another sensational, joint effort.
The Year 3’s raised $4766.85 – on their skipping day – a massive effort for a single year level.
The whole school dress up day last week, which included funds raised through the Year 6 Business Expo, saw us raise a further $5016.35
This together with extra family donations saw us raise a grand total of $10,342.20 FOR TIGRAY
This amount will ensure the ongoing education of 500 children in Prep to Year 8 at Tsefah Primary School in Hawzien Village,Tigray, Ehtiopia.
Thank you to the parents, students and staff for your ongoing support of this most worthy cause and to the Year 3 Village staff and children who continue to drive this global fundraising through their term four focus – VOLUNTEERS & HELPING OTHERS.
Have a great week.

Parking
A reminder to parents and carers are NOT to use the Staff Car Park, or the disabled parks, regardless of the time of day. It is NOT to be used as a quick drop off or collection point.
This includes after Choir on a Wednesday
Please make sure you do your civic duty to follow the road laws and rules. This includes parking correctly in the signed areas, and completing 3 point turns in the middle in the intersection!
We also urge parents to please remember to be patient and polite when using the Oval Carpark, and be good role models for all the children witnessing their behaviour. With over 800 families, drop off and collection times will be busy and you will need to plan your time accordingly.
Please click here for further parking information oakleighsouthps.vic.edu.au/about-us/#parking

SCHOOL MATTERS

School Banking
Last day for Banking
Hi everyone. Just letting you know that next week, Monday 2nd December is the last week for banking for 2019. This will also be your last opportunity to order rewards. Any unused token totals will roll over into 2020.
Youth App
Have you downloaded the Comm Bank Youth App from the App Store? Use it to keep track of your child’s Dollarmite account and also check any time how many deposits they have made for reward reception purposes. This is based on the deposits made into their account at school and are updated every three hours.
All you need is a Netbank client number and you are off! You can get one from your branch if you weren’t provided with one when you opened your account. Just take in your child’s birth certificate.
PLEASE NOTE this is for iOS devices (iPads, Macs, iPods and iPhones) only.
Thank you for a great year.

OSPS School Council Update – September 2019
Dear Parents,
As part of our regular review of programs that OSPS conducts, School Council is seeking your input to evaluate the school’s swimming program, currently being conducted at GESAC. As it stands, Years 3 – 6 have a Term 2 booking and Years P – 2 have a Term 3 booking. There has been a decline in participation over recent years and we want to ascertain parents’ attitudes to the program, whether your child participates or not.
We are asking ALL parents/carers to please take a few moments to complete this quick, anonymous survey regardless of whether your child participates in school swimming lessons.
The survey is to be completed by 9pm Monday 25th November, results will be discussed at the next School Council meeting.

Many thanks in anticipation!

Worms for Sale
Order an Oakleigh South Primary School Worm Pack (worms bred and raised by the year 3 farmers)
RECYCLE all of your organic waste into beautiful garden compost and help to reduce foodstuffs going to landfill.
Our Grade 3s are trying to encourage our community to become active recyclers and carers for our environment. The farmers are culling our thriving worm farms to make up special compost worm recycling kits.
Each kit will contain approx. 500 fat hungry compost/ red/ tiger worms and will include instructions on how to set up your own worm farm.
Alternatively, with a slight modification (placing your compost bin on a bed or wire) you can add our compost worms to your current compost bin.
OUR “Earth Repair Worm Kit “will reduce foodstuffs going to landfill and provide you with wonderful castings for your garden. A worm kit will also make a great Christmas present.
Order forms are available at the Office, and the Class teacher.
The 2019 Grade 3 Villagers
Please pay on Qkr and return form to The Village

No Choir
Due to Year 6 Camp there will be no Choir this week for Years 4 – 6.
Thank you

STUDENT SHOWCASE

Music: Count Us In
Music: Count Us In, is Australia’s largest school initiative. It is the education program of Music Australia, working with partners around the country to support music in schools.
Its genesis was in the 2005 Australian Government National Review of School Music Education which found a lack of music education in schools. MCUI is supported by the Australian Government up until the end of 2020, funded through the Department of Education and Training.
The program culminates in the National Celebration Day when more than half a million students sing the same song, on the same day, at the same time. It is a song written by students, for students. The 2019 Program Song is called ‘We Are’ and its celebrity mentor for this year was Jack River. At assembly on Tuesday the whole school sang and signed in AUSLAN to celebrate the value of music education.

Year 5 – 1800’s Skit
Powerful and emotional performance from the Year 5 students in a role play set in the 1800’s.
The Year 5 Integrated unit is on Australia in the 1800’s and all Year 5’s were apart of performances in their classrooms. One group practiced and performed at the whole school assembly with a judge, jury, convict, bailiff and police officer. A very animated and convincing performance.
What great preparation before heading to Sovereign Hill Camp.
Congratulations to all the students involved.

Homework Task with a Difference
Year 3 cooking with Miss Smith and Mrs James this term has been making an egg breakfast.
Homework in the cooking week has been taking one of our village eggs home to cook and report back on.
Below is a letter from a Year 3 parent .
Hi Mrs Dwyer,
Thanks for providing Chris with an opportunity to explore cooking in this homework task and he truly enjoyed it!
He would like me to send you some pictures of him preparing and cooking as well as tasting the egg that he brought from school. It was a lovely family experience for all of us and we had lots of fun together.
The dish he made was scrambled egg with organic spring onion from our garden 😊
Thanks a lot.
Warm Regards
