The Year 2 production is finally here. Tonight at 7pm the first show of, ‘A Small Part of the World’. If you haven’t already bought tickets, please come along as there will be tickets available for sale at the door. The Year 2 children are very excited. The show will also be on Wednesday and Thursday nights and runs for approximately 45 minutes.

Last Friday afternoon the students were involved in a whole school transition. The children were involved in activities in their next year level, go into classrooms and work with different teachers. From all reports it was a positive experience for everyone.

The school review process has continued this week with the reviewer, engaging in sessions in classrooms from all year levels, meeting with students, staff and parents. It has been a very thorough process and from this we will be planning our next four year strategic plan.

Have a great week.

Ron Cantlon

A reminder to parents and carers are NOT to use the Staff Car Park, or the disabled parks, regardless of the time of day. It is NOT to be used as a quick drop off or collection point.

This includes after Choir on a Wednesday

Please make sure you do your civic duty to follow the road laws and rules. This includes parking correctly in the signed areas, and completing 3 point turns in the middle in the intersection!

We also urge parents to please remember to be patient and polite when using the Oval Carpark, and be good role models for all the children witnessing their behaviour. With over 800 families, drop off and collection times will be busy and you will need to plan your time accordingly.

Please click here for further parking information oakleighsouthps.vic.edu.au/about-us/#parking

Yard duty before school commences at 8:45 am.

After school teachers are in the grounds until 3:45 pm. Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).

Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not arrive early or stay late after school unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. running club).

Colours of Tigray Day

Dress Up For Tigray – TOMORROW

Just a reminder that tomorrow is our day to support the children of Haftu’s village in Tigray.

Wear one or more of the colours of Tigray’s flag – red, green , blue or yellow, or your school uniform with colour added – a headband or armband for example.

Donate $2.00 or more. It would be great if every family could sponsor at least one child to attend school for a year – $5.50 is all it takes

Thank you

OSPS School Council Update – September 2019

Dear Parents,

As part of our regular review of programs that OSPS conducts, School Council is seeking your input to evaluate the school’s swimming program, currently being conducted at GESAC. As it stands, Years 3 – 6 have a Term 2 booking and Years P – 2 have a Term 3 booking. There has been a decline in participation over recent years and we want to ascertain parents’ attitudes to the program, whether your child participates or not.

We are asking ALL parents/carers to please take a few moments to complete this quick, anonymous survey regardless of whether your child participates in school swimming lessons.

The survey is to be completed by 9pm Monday 25th November, results will be discussed at the next School Council meeting.

Many thanks in anticipation!

Worms for Sale

Order an Oakleigh South Primary School Worm Pack  (worms bred and raised by the year 3 farmers)

RECYCLE all of your organic waste into beautiful garden compost and help to reduce foodstuffs going to landfill.

Our Grade 3s are trying to encourage our community to become active recyclers and carers for our environment.  The farmers are culling our thriving worm farms to make up special compost worm recycling kits.

Each kit will contain approx. 500 fat hungry compost/ red/ tiger worms and will include instructions on how to set up your own worm farm.
Alternatively, with a slight modification (placing your compost bin on a bed or wire) you can add our compost worms to your current compost bin.

OUR “Earth Repair Worm Kit “will reduce foodstuffs going to landfill and provide you with wonderful castings for your garden. A worm kit will also make a great Christmas present .

Year 3 – Dairy Focus

Term 3 in The Village is all about healthy eating with a focus on dairy.  It is a hands on, interactive learning term in keeping with The Village approach.  A highlight as always is raising a large animal – and for the fourth year in a row this has been a calf generously given to us to raise by Travis and Kylie from Chesterfield Farm. We named her Ester and she was just about the sweetest calf we have raised so far.  All children, as farmers and in class groups were involved in her bottle feeding and general care.  The unit of work culminated in an excursion to Chesterfield Farm.

We were also fortunate to be selected to take part in Dairy Australia’s 2019 Picasso Cows Program – an engaging interactive learning program to learn about the Australian dairy industry, its products, health and nutrition benefits, farming processes and the manufacturing process. This cross-curricular program was highly interactive, catering for a diverse range of learning styles. It encouraged the development of ideas and creativity through cooperation and teamwork. The children were truly engaged and we were able to produce a learning journal of such quality that we took out one of the major prizes – winning the award for the BEST LEARNING JOURNAL from entrants across Australia and $1000 for The Village.

You can view our learning journal on line. Picasso Cows Discover Dairy
