Despite the challenges felt through ongoing lockdowns, we at OSPS remain absolutely committed to supporting students in their learning and wellbeing. As teachers and as a school, this is our core purpose. I fully appreciate your role in supporting your child’s learning at home during this time.
I encourage all students to keep connected with their teachers and class friends. Please make sure your children are logging on to their Zoom meetings throughout the day. Not only is this maintaining a good routine for your child, but it is also an important time for them to stay in touch with their teacher and classmates.
Also, a reminder to parents to continue to monitor your child’s use of devices when they are online. Making sure your child is using the correct platform helps keep them safe online. I appreciate your support with this.
I trust all our families are keeping safe and well, and will continue to do so, throughout this very challenging time.
Have a great week.

PREP ZOO EXCURSION
Elephants, monkeys, tigers and lions! The Preps were lucky enough to see them all. The sky was cloudy, but everyone was smiling as we headed off for the Zoo on Thursday the 5th of August.
What an amazing time we had. We talked to the keepers, touched a dinosaur tooth, and saw the seals and penguins, swimming, and diving. All the Prep teachers and a LOT of helpful parents tramped around the zoo, making sure no one was cuddled by a gorilla or swallowed by a snake.
Here are some of photos, proving that we had HEAPS of fun!
YEAR 3 – TERM 3
Term 3 has been a big term for year 3. Day 1 started with our swimming program. The students did a fabulous job of organising themselves and getting ready for their swimming classes. We jumped on the bus and headed to GSAC. The team at GSAC were wonderful! The students had a great time learning different aspects and techniques to improve their swimming. Best of all I think they liked jumping in the deep end and splashing the teachers. Hopefully, we will have an opportunity to finish our program this year as it was cut short by lockdown.
Back into lockdown and remote learning for the 3s. Everyone has kept their head held high and made a superb effort with remote learning. It’s been great to see students faces via Zoom each day and being able to explicitly teach but also check in with the students and have a laugh. We’ve enjoyed reading their wellbeing and mindfulness writing activities. Students have been asked to think about what they are grateful for. They have done a fantastic job thinking, showing, writing, dancing, baking and even painting what things they are grateful for. Check out some amazing talents the year 3s have shown us. Keep up the wonderful work!
OSPS SPORT NEWS
SSV VIRTUAL CROSS COUNTRY
Built on the success of the 2020 Virtual Cross Country event, SSV is delighted to provide this great opportunity again in 2021. Victorian primary and secondary students can take part in any way they would like – they can run or walk.
he main aim is for students to get out and give it a go.
Every meter run by a student will earn virtual points for their school. Students will be given the option to submit their performance, but if they wish they also now have the additional option to not have their performance made public.
Students should make sure they have parent/guardians permission before heading out for a run or walk or even better take them along and maybe also a friend. Find a suitable park, recreation reserve, oval, athletics track, green space, trails, the footpaths of the street on the block that you live to make a circuit (be safe out there if crossing streets) or even a treadmill.
There are three simple steps for students to participate in the SSV Virtual Cross Country:
- Find a suitable route
- Go for a run or walk
- Record the time and distance
- Click on the SSV link found here and enter your details. Be sure to use Mr.Rowe’s email address when prompted for a sport coordinator.
Entries close on the 1st of October.
