PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
The countdown is on to our first proper full production in over two years. The year 4 children have had their full-dress rehearsals this week. We can’t wait for their performances next Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th July at 7.00pm in the school hall. Thank you to everyone involved and good luck to all the children.
We are very happy to have the Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) program commence in Prep this term. The TLI program is structured on differentiation, personalisation and student-centred learning. As it only has 4-6 students per group, student outcomes are greatly improved.
We have 135 very excited year 3 children who are looking forward to their first camp at Alexandra next Monday. The camp is a wonderful experience for them where they will take part in a variety of activities such as flying fox, ropes course, raft building and camp cooking. Thank you for your support of this camp.
Have a fantastic week.

YEAR 4 PRODUCTION – THE X FACTORY

COVID-19 UPDATE FACE MASKS IN SCHOOLS
It is strongly recommended by the Victorian Department of Health that face masks are worn in indoor settings, with face masks mandatory for those aged 8 and over who are household contacts and attending school. This is because the wearing of masks is effective in reducing the transmission of COVID-19.
What does this mean in practice for schools?
It is the department’s expectation that, through to the end of winter, students aged 8 and over and staff will wear masks when in class, except where removing a mask is necessary for clear communication or when a particular activity requires the removal of a mask.
Masks are not required to be worn outdoors but can be worn when physical distancing is not possible. This expectation should not constrain student participation in the full range of school activities, including music, sport and performances.
Wearing masks is a simple step we can all take this winter to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases and ensure our schools are as safe as possible.
A short letter is available below, signed by each of the 3 school sectors which explains the consistent expectation across all schools in Victoria this winter. You can access this by clicking on the link below.

COMPASS – E-MAILING YOUR CLASS TEACHER
If you need to e-mail your class teacher through Compass – please only click on ‘e-mail class teacher’ so your e-mail just goes to your child’s classroom teacher.
There is an option to click ‘e-mail all teachers’, if this option is selected your e-mail also goes to specialist staff.
Thank you for your cooperation.
NAIDOC AT OSPS
Over the next few weeks, students at Oakleigh South Primary School will have the opportunity to come together and learn and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and the achievements of Australia’s First Nations People.
NAIDOC week was held on July 3rd – 10th over the school holidays, so as a school community, we will be celebrating NAIDOC Week on 18th – 22nd during the second week of Term 3.
The adjacent image is just one of the many NAIDOC activities students have enjoyed. Well done to the Year 2 team on creating such a wonderful display!
A fun fact is that Oakleigh South Primary School is situated on the land of two tribes, representing both the Bunurong and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung tribes.
In support of NAIDOC Week, we will be selling wristbands for $3 during the second week of Term 3. Should you wish for your child to purchase a wristband, please send them to school with $3 during week 2. A Student Voice representative will be selling them to each class throughout the week.
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, and pay our respects to the Elders, past, present and emerging.

ILLNESS
It can be difficult for families to know when their child is sick enough to need to stay home from school. For safety’s sake, if your child seems unwell you should always keep them home from school and seek medical advice.
Families can experience problems when trying to take time off to care for an ill child at home. However, it is important that parents focus not only on the wellbeing of their own child, but also upon the wellbeing of other children and the staff. If you need to administer Panadol/Nurofen before school, then your child should not be at school.
If your child has vomited or had diarrhoea, they must be completely well for 24 hours before returning to school.
RESILIENCE PROJECT

GEM AT OAKLEIGH SOUTH PRIMARY SCHOOL
Students in YearS 4-6 will have the opportunity to explore GEM during lunchtimes. Mindfulness is one of the four pillars of GEM, Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy.
Mindfulness is the ability to be present in the moment and our ability to remain calm. We practice this through slowing down and concentrating on one thing at a time.
Students are able to attend GEM Club each Friday at 1pm to practise Mindfulness. There will be activities supplied by Ms Paroukas, however, students are also able to bring in their own to school to use in GEM Club.
With Gratitude.
