PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

A big welcome back to everyone, including our new families to Oakleigh South, to what will be another exciting term full of learning and wonderful experiences.

To bring you up to date with the School Council election review process, as communicated in the May 7 Newsletter there was, unfortunately, an administrative error in the lead up to our School Council Elections earlier in the year. As a result the Department of Education conducted a thorough review of the process and it has been determined that we call a new election for 4 positions. Consequently we are required to conduct another election with the positions currently held by Campbell Davies, Nikki Kaur, Maria Macri and Kate Liu to be filled.

Nominations opened at 4pm yesterday and will close at 4pm next Monday, and Nomination forms are available from the office. After the close of nominations, we will determine whether an election will be required (this depends on the number of nominations received). If an election is required, voting forms will be sent home next Tuesday to the eldest child in each family. Voting will be opened for one week.

Don’t forget that the Year 4 Production, The Music Man Kids, will be held next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7pm. The show will finish at approximately 8pm.
Tickets for the show are still available through www.trybooking.com for $12 adult and $7 child

Have a great week.

Ron Cantlon
Principal

Parent Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining a perception of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

Approximately 30 percent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday, 22nd July to Sunday, 11th August.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tables or smartphones. THe online survey is available in a range of languages other than English. These include Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.

The survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of September.

Please speak with your child’s teacher if you would like more information.

2020 prep enrolments are filling up quickly. We know that there are still some current parents with younger children who are wanting to attend Oakleigh South Primary next year, and we ask that you submit your 2020 Prep enrolment paperwork before the end of this term to secure a place.

Enrolment forms are available on the school website http://oakleighsouthps.vic.edu.au/enrolments/

Proposed Development – 1 Beryl Avenue

We have been contacted by a number of parents and local residents concerned about the proposed development of the old school site at 1 Beryl Avenue.

Their action group have provided a template to assist families wishing to offer feedback to City of Monash re the proposed development. They also encourage residents who wish to write their own submissions as it’s better for Council to see a large number of residents who feel strongly enough to separately voice their views. A Word format file is available for residents and community members who wish to edit the text and include additional feedback, or to simply sign and return. Anyone over 18 can lodge a submission.

Car Parking

Parents are NOT to use the Staff Car Park, or the disabled parks, regardless of the time of day. It is NOT to be used as a quick drop off or collection point.

This includes after Choir on a Wednesday

Please make sure you do your civic duty to follow the road laws and rules. This includes parking correctly in the signed areas, and completing 3 point turns in the middle in the intersection!

We also urge parents to please remember to be patient and polite when using the Oval Carpark, and be good role models for all the children witnessing their behaviour. With over 800 families, drop off and collection times will be busy and you will need to plan your time accordingly.
