Late last week the Department released its 6th version of the Operations Guide for schools this term. OSPS leadership have decided that we will continue our current operations including the same drop off and pick up times at, the same gates and the same staggered recess and lunch timetable. The students and staff are in a good routine and to maintain consistency, we will see it through the last two and a half weeks of school. Parents may be invited onto the school grounds for special working groups, for example graduation set up, and will be notified and advised by staff of COVID safe practices and protocol.
This Friday our 2021 Preps will meet their teacher and classmates via Zoom. The teachers have planned lots of activities for them to do during the session. Although this is not ideal, the new preps will get a chance to meet their teachers face to face that afternoon on the school oval. They are invited to come and say hello and pick up an activities bag for over the holidays.
I invite parents to a community meeting on Wednesday 9th December at 5.30pm (via Zoom) to present the school’s 2019 Annual Report to share the school’s achievements and progress with the school community, as well as the School’s Strategic Plan (2020-2023) and answer any questions related to these if members of the community have any. The Annual Report and School Strategic Plan (2020-2023) can be located on the school website. A Zoom meeting invite will be sent to the school community via Operoo prior to the date advertised.
Next Tuesday and Friday the rest of the school will be involved in a transition morning where they will all go to their 2021 year level. They will find out about things that happen in their new year level. The groups that they will be in on that day will not be their class or teacher for 2021. The children will meet their 2021 class and teacher on Thursday 17th December, the last day of school.
Enjoy your week.

THANK YOU TO KATRINA JONES & COMMONWEALTH BANK
You may have noticed the media have published articles about the Department of Education’s decision to cease school banking programs in schools in 2021.
Parent volunteer Katrina Jones and her very dedicated group of parent helpers have been running this program for 15 years. The students and staff have appreciated all their efforts and dedication to asssit in delivering such a program.
The fundraising contributions have provided many appreciated extras for the children of Oakleigh South PS.
We haven’t heard anything officially via the Deparment at this stage and we will all be waiting for ASICS recommendations to see what happens next.
On behalf of all the students and staff once again thank you Katrina for all your work and your team.
Hopefully such a valuable program can exist in another guise in the future.
YEAR 4 INVENTORS
This term the Year 4s have been enjoying exploring the Integrated topic of Inventors across a number of curriculum areas. Students have been looking at how simple machines work and have drawn inspiration from the Rube Goldberg Machine (a machine intentionally designed to perform a simple task in an indirect and overly complicated way).
Working together in small groups students are becoming inventors and engineers to design and make their own Rube Goldberg machines. We look forward to viewing their final products in the coming weeks.
