PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
The Prep children are settling very well into their classroom routines with their individual assessments taking place each Wednesday until the end of February. All other year levels are in full swing and have transitioned to their new year level without any issues.
Our annual Parent Information Nights will begin tomorrow night with the Prep and Year 1 levels having theirs. Years 2 & 3 will be held on Tuesday February 9th with Years 4, 5 & 6 being held on Wednesday February 10th. We are slightly restricted to numbers due to density levels within the school and there will be NO child-minding available this year.
During the holiday break the library was opened for children who wanted to change their AR books. Well done to the children who did come in and change their books over and a huge thank you to Sally Bahnsen and Dawn Charles who came in during their holidays to assist with this. We also had a terrific response to our myON holiday challenge. Results will be posted in the newsletter shortly and those students celebrated during assembly.
As you may be aware the Victorian Government is investing $250 million in the Tutor Learning Initiative to enable schools across Victoria to engage teachers as tutors in 2021 to support students who need extra assistance with their learning. We have engaged additional teachers who are now supporting children with intensive learning so that classroom teachers have greater capacity to ensure that all other students’ achievement, engagement and well-being needs are met, so that all students receive the support they need in 2021. Further information will be forwarded to relevant families soon about the Tutor Learning Initiative and how it will be implemented for students.
Enjoy the rest of your week.

PRIVACY COLLECTION STATEMENT
Primary School Information for Parents and Carers
During the ordinary course of your child’s attendance at our school, school staff will collect your child’s personal and health information when necessary to educate your child, or to support your child’s social and emotional wellbeing or health in the school context. Such information will also be collected when required to fulfil a legal obligation, including duty of care, anti-discrimination law and occupational health and safety law. If that information is not collected, the school may be unable to provide optimal education or support to your child, or fulfil those legal obligations.
For example, health information may be collected through the school nurse, primary welfare officer or wellbeing staff member. If your child is referred to a specific health service at school, such as a Student Support Services officer, the required consent will be obtained. Our school also collects information provided by parents and carers through the School Entrance Health Questionnaire (SEHQ) and the Early Childhood Intervention Service (ECIS) Transition Form.
Our school may use online tools, such as apps and other software, to effectively collect and manage information about your child for teaching and learning purposes, parent communication and engagement; student administration; and school management purposes. When our school uses these online tools, we take steps to ensure that your child’s information is secure. If you have any concerns about the use of these online tools, please contact us.
School staff will only share your child’s personal or health information with other staff who need to know to enable the school to educate or support your child, or fulfil a legal obligation.
When our students transfer to another Victorian government school, personal and health information about that student will be transferred to that next school. Transferring this information is in the best interests of our students and assists that next school to provide optimal education and support to students.
In some limited circumstances, information may be disclosed outside of the school (and outside of the Department of Education and Training). The school will seek your consent for such disclosures unless the disclosure is allowed or mandated by law.
Our school values the privacy of every person. When collecting and managing personal and health information, all school staff must comply with Victorian privacy law. For more information about privacy including about how to access personal and health information held by the school about you or your child, see our school’s privacy policy: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/Pages/schoolsprivacypolicy.aspx
Throughout this notice, ‘staff’ includes principals, teachers, Student Support Service officers, youth workers, social workers, nurses and any other allied health practitioners and all other staff at our school. OSPS PARENT ONLINE COMMUNITY
The OSPS Parent Online Community Private Facebook Group was created during the 2020 year when remote learning commenced as a forum for OSPS parents to engage as a school community and connect. There was overwhelming support to keep this page going in 2021while we hopefully enter a COVID normal year of school and education.
Rules: Positive, respectful and appropriate posts, comments, photos and engagement most welcomed.
We understand social media is an important community tool that parents like to engage with, however please keep in mind that the school website, Operoo, e-mailing your teacher, team leader or principal class staff are still the key and official channels of communication between school and home and visa versa. If you have any concerns or issues at any time, please contact the school directly.
Feel free to ask questions, post helpful tips, links, sell your second hand uniform, share your success stories and have a laugh memes, as long as they follow the group rules.
This site will be sporadically monitored by staff in an official capacity at OSPS under the profile Admina Oaksouth. You may find Admina posting important reminders, pointing parents in the right direction and collecting the good news stories and photos that have parent permission to use for the official OSPS facebook page and website.
Please note parents requesting to join must answer 2 questions before being approved to join the page.
