PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
I’d like to welcome everyone back to OSPS for 2020. A special welcome the new families who have joined our school community for the first time.
The children in Years 1 – 6 settled in very well yesterday and we welcomed our new preps for their very first day of school today.
We have a number of new staff who have started with us this year. They too have settled into their new grades and are looking forward to working at our wonderful school.
As you are all aware there are some concerns surrounding the Coronavirus and its implications on the school community. I advised our position on this in the notice that was sent out on Tuesday. I would like to remind everyone that we have no known students from Wuhan, China. If any families/students have been to China or other affected countries and experience flu like symptoms, they should seek medical attention and inform the school.
Some families returning from China have already indicated to us that they will keep their children home from school for the incubation period of 14 days. If you have travelled to China and are considering keeping your children home, please inform the school and we can send work home for the child.
Lastly, on behalf of the school, I would like to send our best wishes and thoughts to any of our families that were affected by the recent bushfires. We will be organising a fundraiser to support the bushfire cause in the near future.
This year the newsletter will be available through Care Monkey on Wednesday afternoon.
Enjoy the rest of your week.
Ron Cantlon
Principal

SUPERVISION AND PARKING
Parking
A reminder to parents and carers are NOT to use the Staff Car Park, or the disabled parks, regardless of the time of day. It is NOT to be used as a quick drop off or collection point.
This includes after Choir on a Wednesday
Please make sure you do your civic duty to follow the road laws and rules. This includes parking correctly in the signed areas, and completing 3 point turns in the middle in the intersection!
We also urge parents to please remember to be patient and polite when using the Oval Carpark, and be good role models for all the children witnessing their behaviour. With over 800 families, drop off and collection times will be busy and you will need to plan your time accordingly.
Please click here for further parking information oakleighsouthps.vic.edu.au/about-us/#parking
Supervision
Yard duty before school commences at 8:45 am.
After school teachers are in the grounds until 3:45 pm. Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).
Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not arrive early or stay late after school unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. running club).
SCHOOL MATTERS

Medication and Action Plans
An urgent reminder to parents that students with medical conditions are required to upload new Action Plans to CareMonkey and provide a copy of the plan and medication to the Office. All Action Plans must be reviewed and signed off by your doctor and have a clear, current photo of the student.
They are a legal requirement, and it is our school policy that they be updated every 12 months.
Having all plans with photos, and medication correctly labelled ensures we comply with the regulations and supports us to administer the correct medication at all times. Your support with this is very important.
If you have any queries, please contact Carlyn Backers in the Office or email backers.carlyn.c@edumail.vic.gov.au
For copies of ASCIA and Asthma Plans can be found on the school website in under Forms, Event and Year Level Information https://oakleighsouthps.vic.edu.au/news-events/

CareMonkey
Firstly thank you for the overwhelming response to CareMonkey, currently we have had over 95% of families register which is amazing.
Secondly if you wish to have Parent B added to CareMonkey please email caremonkey@oakleighsouthps.vic.edu.au, stating the name and email address of the Parent to be added, your child’s name and class.
Thirdly, if your child has an action plan for Asthma, Anaphylaxis or Allergy, please remember to take a screen shot an upload it to CareMonkey.
Regards,
Jo, Sarah & Carlyn

School Payments and Qkr!
Qkr! continues to be our preferred method of payment for school accounts, and to make things easier for parents, class teachers and the Office, we have some changes to the Qkr! proccess this year.
Qkr will now open on a Wednesday, and after a 2 week payment window, close at 4.30pm on a Wednesday.
If you miss this payment window, or pay using BPAY, Credit Card or CSEF, you will need to complete the orange form, available from your Classroom Teacher, for processing via the Classroom Cash Book.
Now the new year has begun, please download the Qkr app on your phone or tablet.
Register your child – checking that all details are correct, and that you have registered your child, not yourself.
Insert info about account set up
Instead, we ask that if you have any issues accessing your Qkr account please email Sarah Van Deursen vandeursen.sarah.e@edumail.vic.gov.au with the following details:
* User’s email address registered with Qkr
* User’s mobile number in Qkr
* First name and surname of one or more of the user’s children.
This will enable us to contact our Qkr account manager who can then confirm and delete the user’s Qkr registration so that the user can then Sign Up on Qkr using the same email and mobile number if desited.
** Note that deleting the user’s Qkr registration will also delete their access to previous Qkr receipts. Users will, however, be able to see their Qkr purchases on their credit card statement, and the school will be able to verify their transaction details if required by running a past payment report.
To avoid the possibility of users losing access to their Qkr receipts in the future, they can activate the option to Always Email Receipts on their Qkr App settings.
School Fees and Statements
Statements will be sent home to families later in February, giving families time to breathe after the Christmas break and back to school pressures.

Camps, Sports, Excursions Fund (CSEF)
The Victorian Government offer a Sports, Camps and Excursions Fund for families who hold a valid means-tested concession card are eligible to apply. A special consideration category also exists.
A payment of $125 for eligible primary school students and $225 for eligible secondary school students will be paid directly to the school to be used toward camps, sports and excursion costs for the student’s benefit.
CSEF payments to schools will commence from 1 March onwards. Schools are able to continue processing applications until the end of Term 2.

Bushfire Donations
During the recent bushfires we witnessed the most devastating loss of homes, property, animals and the natural environment.
The Year 3s have donated the $1000 we won for the Picasso Cow Best Learning Journal in 2019, towards supporting one of the many animal welfare shelters in their efforts to rescue and look after animals injured in the bushfires.

Overdue Library Books
Now the 2020 School Year has begun, we ask that any unreturned school library books from 2019 are please returned to the library as soon as possible.
You will be able to re borrow them if required.
Thank you for your cooperation.

School Banking
School Banking will resume on Monday, 10th February.
Please ensure that your deposit slips are accurately filled in, and that you have updated your student’s class for 2020.
If you are new to OSPS but have done school banking at your last school, please send a note with your child’s book letting the volunteer parents know so that they can update the student code and deposit the entry correctly.
Thank you
