Last night I was part of a wonderful celebration, the Year 6 Graduation dinner and ceremony. The night was fantastic, where each child spoke about their years at Oakleigh South. A big thank you to the grade 6 teachers for their organisation of the night and a massive thank you to the parent group who decorated the hall foyer and served dinner to over 120 people.
As many of you already know, Janet Sharpley, our amazingly dedicated music teacher, is retiring. Last Tuesday the staff celebrated her 22 years at OSPS with singing, speeches, laughs and a beautiful afternoon tea. I would like to thank Janet on behalf of the whole school community for all of her work that she has contributed to make our performing arts program spectacular.
Finally, I would like to thank the children, staff and parents for another fantastic year. The work everyone puts in is a credit to them. I would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas with family and friends and a safe, relaxing and happy New Year.
We will see all children, Prep to Year 6 back on Tuesday 31st January for the start of term 1.
Have a great weekend.
Mr Ron Cantlon
The school has been notified that a proposed 3 storey Child Care Centre, to be built opposite our parent car park entrance, is currently before the Monash Council Planning Board. The proposal states that their staff and users will have access to our car park. This issue has never been discussed with the school and we would be reluctant to grant permission, given the parking and traffic flow issues which already exist in the area.
The school has lodged a formal objection, and if you feel the same, I invite you to do likewise by visiting the Monash Council Website at….
Below is a link to the pro forma letter that you can print and sign.
We will also have copies available at the office next week that you can simply collect and sign.
Parents are NOT to use the Staff Car Park, or the disabled parks, regardless of the time of day. It is NOT to be used as a quick drop off or collection point.
This includes after Choir on a Wednesday
A reminder to parents that the Essential Learning Fees and school expenses are now due in full. Please contact the school to ensure your account is cleared for the 2016 school year. If you have any queries or concerns regarding payment, please contact Jo Chapple on 9570 1016.
School banking has finished for 2016. Thank you to the parent volunteers who assisted with this program.
INTER & INTRA SCHOOL SPORT 2017
Our school is a member of the Bentleigh District School Sport Association and compete against the following schools: Coatesville, Murrumbeena, St. Paul’s, St. Andrew’s, St. Peter’s and Oakleigh Grammar.
Children in Year 5 & 6 participate in sport on a Thursday for Summer (Term 1) and Winter (Term 2) playing both at home and at other schools. Some schools don’t have the playing fields that Oakleigh South does; therefore they may use local council fields.
Due to the high number of students in Year 5 & 6 in 2017, and with only 5 sports per term, some children participate in the Inter school program and other children in the Intra school program. There are approximately 110 places available over the 5 Sports, with total numbers in Year 5 & 6 – 250.
Children not participating in Inter school sport will be involved in an Intra school sport program back at school. Whether children are playing intra or inter, they will be playing at their correct level.
With ever increasing student numbers in the Year 5 & 6 level, in 2018, Interschool sport will be Year 6 only.
Summer team sports will be at the following venues when at home:
Flag Rugby, Cricket and Softball is on the School Oval, Basketball on the courts.
Volleyball is at South Oakleigh Secondary College.
Winter team sports – Sofcrosse, Soccer, Rounders and Netball at the school and
AFL – at South Oakleigh Secondary College.
At the conclusion of the “Home & Away” season, a day is set aside for finals for the top 4 teams. If successful in the finals, depending on the sport, some teams will progress through to the Division level.
Bottle Green Sports T-shirts with the “OS“ emblem can be purchased for $17.00 from the Office.
