Last Friday night the children from all year levels got their dancing shoes on and enjoyed a wonderful night of music, dancing and fun. This was another fantastic event for our school that was organised by The Parent Group. Thank you for all the amazing work you do for our school. Thank you also to the staff that came along and supported this event … The children loved it!

SCHOOL MATTERS

Wear a colour of Tigray

Whole School Dress up for Tigray Day – Thursday, November 23rd

Congratulations to all the Year 3 children and their families—over $5,000 raised for the Heart Foundation and for our sister school in Tigray this week. A sensational effort!! Help us to build on the $5K raised through Jump Rope for Heart by wearing either casual clothes with one or more of Tigray’s flag colours

Please help us increase the amount we send to Tigray— by dressing up in the colours of the Tigray flag next Thursday. – red, green, yellow or blue or your school uniform with a touch of colour – red or yellow in any way you can – tshirt, armband, headband etc.

Donate what you can – $2.00 or more – “Together We Achieve”

Please consider sending $3.50 as this is all it takes to send a child in Tigray to school for the 2017/18 school year.

Overdue Library Books

We are fast approaching the end of the year and there are still a large number of books that are overdue. We will be sending lists home with children who have outstanding books that need to be returned.

It would be greatly appreciated if parents could help their children find the books and bring them back to the library.

Thank you for your cooperation.

STUDENT SHOWCASE

From the Sport’s Desk

Reporting:
Testing is well underway for all children at Oakleigh South PS. Ms Lolas conducts formal, individual testing for Preps and Grade 1 children, concentrating on Fundamental Motor skills – throwing, catching, bouncing and kicking as well as physical fitness. Mr Mooney conducts similar testing for the Gr 2 children, but for the Gr 3, 4 , 5 & 6 children, testing is by way of game situations – how children perform in simple “Invasion games”. We look for decision making when children have the ball as well as ball skills. We also look for children’s ability to read the play and their defensive skills. Taken into account is children who have represented the school in Swimming, Cross-Country and Athletics.
A ” Beep Test” is also used as a test for physical fitness.

Grade 5 Sport with Clarinda and Huntingdale Primary Schools:
Over the past 3 weeks all Gr 5 children have played cricket, tennis and European handball on Friday against students from Clarinda PS and Huntingdale PS. Our children have really enjoyed this experience against 2 schools from outside our Bentleigh District.

T-20 Big Blast Cricket Gala Day:
Last Thursday 37 children from Grades 4 and 5 played “Tennis ball” cricket against 4 of our District schools. The children had a great day in beautiful sunshine. Nothing better than sport getting you out of school !

Region Volleyball:
Nine girls from Gr 5 and 6 played Volleyball against schools from our Southern Metro. The girls played really well, winning the first game and losing in the knock out semi final. Thanks to Mr Rowe.
